Having my followings.csv just be created on request and dropped into my Calckey drive (so I can then upload it to my Mastodon account @Artbear so I follow my people from both accounts) is just one of the coolest things ever!
Awesome feature, super useful native storage in platform on Calckey and awesome Fediverse functionality generally. Social platforms that aren't fighting each other, but co-operating effectively and you see your circle from all of them! So cool. #Calckey#Mastodon#AccountPortability#Social#Fediverse
I am soft-deleting this post because of recent controversy around the Nivenly project all detailed here: https://twokitties.neocities.org/

Keeping bad actors away from the #fediverse is a #social problem that cannot be solved with #technology alone. However technology is one tool we can use to reduce the negative impact of bad actors as a first line of defense.
For anyone interested using technology for keeping bad actors off of #Mastodon and the fedeiverse to the greatest extent possible, check out (at)Are0h(at)ubiqueros.com website: https://thebad.space/about . It has an block-list API which in my opinion should be incorporated into the Mastodon reference implementation to make it easier for instance maintainers and system operators to share and coordinate efforts. Since (as far as I can see, at the time of this writing) these features are NOT built-in to the current Mastodon reference implementation, which shows an unfortunate lack of concern and understanding by the maintainers of mastodon.social, we have to resort to these round-about means to keep malicious users from attacking our communities.
I've been hearing about this idea that your home is your first place, work or school is your second place, and that there are amazing benefits to having a third place that is community space for socializing and does not emphasize commerce. This could be a church, a barber shop, a library, a rec center, a park, etc.
I do not have a third place, and apparently I am not alone. Since the US has been and continues to be increasingly car-dependent, especially in the suburbs, and community spaces are disappearing and giving way to commercial properties, we don't have many third places left here.
The Fediverse is probably the closest thing many of us here have to a third place, but research has shown that it's just not the same. Online communities are amazing, but they can't replace the mental benefits one gets from an IRL third place.
So what's up guys? Do you have a third place? If so, what is it? How has it improved your life or where do you think you might be without it? I'm really curious to hear about your experience.
Hmm, I would have thought a post starting with @mention would not be visible on the main timeline but only under posts and replies but apparently not.
I guess it’s “full attention of everyone following you” or “direct message.” Would be nice to have “public but I’m not shouting it to all my followers” as the default for @mentions.
@autiomaa@krzysztofdrozdowski Not to mention (no pun intended) that there is a very real social difference between a public @mention that you don’t want to broadcast to all your followers (should be the default) vs a direct message. The default should be that you can say something to someone publicly without pointing at them and shouting “hey, everyone, listen to what I’m about to tell so-and-so!”
#Off#Politique#Social#RSA#1ermai#Chomage
Anybody know anything about BlueSky social? I get Nostr, that's just Jack Dorsey, and Crypto Bros gonna Crypto, but why is BlueSky trying to create ANOTHER distributed social network when we already have one that WORKS GREAT and WITH OPEN STANDARDS UNGH! :)
I'm guessing this is about $#!@# money. Some idjit saw Twitter goes toes up and smelled an Opportunity?
I can relate very much to what you say, in particular after checking my "cheat sheet" on "#performativeBelief" 😉:
"...people ‘believe in belonging’, choosing #religious identifications to complement other social and emotional experiences of ‘#belongings’. The concept of ‘performative belief‘ helps explain how otherwise non-religious people can bring into being a #Christian identity related to #social belongings."
Fetches and converts data between social networks, HTML and JSON with microformats2, ActivityStreams 1 and 2 (including ActivityPub), Atom, RSS, JSON Feed, and more.
Clayton Christensen, sadly not with us any more, described the “law of the conservation of attractive profits” in his 2003 book “The Innovator’s Solution”. It’s been intriguing to me ever since. I wonder whether we can apply it to the revolutionary impact the #fediverse can/will/might/has on the #social media industry.
I think it can, and should be applied to understand opportunities and perils — by everybody who has a stake in the fediverse project, even if you want business to stay out.
Excellent deep dive on the current state of the #fediverse and #mastodon, with a detailed history of the movement to #decentralize#social, and predictions about where we go from here.
I recently attended a LinkedIn online video discussion. As it turns out people on #social media are looking for #community.
This is something I've seen lacking and I've been making efforts to have some sort of tech community of creators, innovators, off-the-wallers...people capable of more than what life has for them...whether they're financially well-off and just need a reason to feel alive of they're struggling and need a sense of direction.
