Terminator Salvation came out in 2009 and I can’t believe tiny killer drones are already here. Just ~14 years.
For sci fi in general, it seems like technology is moving so fast that the threshold has to be set higher. I think anything “futuristic” has to be at least 50 years out, if not more.
"While #VirginBirths occur naturally in many #animal species and have been induced in others — including mice — by manipulating cells, this #research marked the first time #scientists isolated specific #genes to make #parthenogenesis a lasting and inheritable trait in an organism not otherwise capable of this type of reproduction. Though the feat may seem like the stuff of #scienceFiction, take note: It is not the harbinger of virgin births in humans."
I loved the entrance of these two on this planet! I wish I could do that from space! (It is probably impossible due to current technology levels plus physics).
This episode of Foundation had a lot of political conniving going on, & it was good to get a look at inside the vault.
The time lapse between fourth-dimensional space & three-dimensional space was fascinating & hilarious! 😂 💩 (the latter emoji is a hint—I will reveal no more!).
This season seems to have more action than the last one, although the previous season’s purpose was to (pun not intended) lay a foundation for the rest of the series.
I love how, despite the power of the Empire, they have more or less grown stagnant while those on the outer rim of space (primarily adherents to the Foundation) have explored organic artificial intelligence inside starships (another fascinating topic!).
Ironically, in the first season, I was more interested in the Empire rulers (Dawn, Day, Dusk & Darkness) than the other characters. Now, with season two, the reverse is true.
When Elizabeth makes a discovery that throws her entire identity into question, she uses a time machine found in an abandoned house. As she catapults through time, she encounters a mysterious abandoned child, an elite gymnast preparing for Olympic Trials, and an enigmatic woman who seems to know more than she’s revealing.
@drskyskull I'm thoroughly enjoying your book in the science of invisibility. It's been a looooong time since I've learned the basics of electromagnetism too, so it's actually been a useful refresher!
Having just finished the chapter on Maxwell... he saw a demonstration of electric trains. Does this mean that they had put together electric motors well before they actually understood the underlying theory of how they worked?
What I enjoyed about this episode is that you got to see how weak the Empire had become based upon their projections of strength.
Watching a former general who fell out of grace in the eyes of the Empire (but not of the people), attempt to negotiate with powerful people was striking, especially his attitude towards the leader who had caused him so much suffering.
However what shocked me was the ending of the episode which surprisingly displayed some...humanity (that is the only hint you get!
Having progress on Genetics on Sale, a scifi book concering genetic modification. Also in terms of cover art, I'm thinking of this. What do you think? What this pic tells you about the plot? #sciencefiction#scifi#scifiart
Just a lil crop of a Davor pinup I made. This red fellow is part of an upcoming project that will hoooopefully have a demo in the next couple months or so...
“Tehanu” by Ursula K LeGuin (#Audiobook )
Osamu Dazai’s “No Longer Human” by Junji Ito
Hyperspace by Michio Kaku (somewhat on hold)
A Collective Bargain by Jane McAlevey (have finished and am rereading to use in my daily life!)
