Boarding school sub-plots in coming-of-age novels (e.g. Robin Hobbs’ Soldiers son-trilogy, or Rothfuss’ The wise man’s fear) are always predictable and stereotypical.
I like Sanderson’s writing a LOT. It is so entertaining! But his public persona and the fan cult encircling him is so off-putting. Not to mention the Mormon stuff. #BrandonSanderson
Robin Hobb is one of the most important writers in contemporary fantasy literature. Her Realm of the Elderlings novels, published 1995-2017, are a stunning feat of storytelling and worldbuilding. #RobinHobb#fantasy
I love the parts at the beginning of genre stories before the mysterious wizard shows up or the spaceship picks up a distress call, that just describes normal everyday life in the world.
Best recent #StarWars-scene: Luke at the end of #TheMandalorian s2. The most striking illustration ever of how damn powerful Jedi are. Mando and co, known to be pretty damn tough players, don't stand a chance against those death stormtroopers. They were running for their lives etc. Luke strolls through them.
