Taking the #Amtrak#NorthEastRegional#train from NYC to DC this random Monday afternoon and its 9 cars are 💯 sold out.
Gone are the days when I would have a ticket and jump on the next train with no change fees. Trains are now full.
Biden said feds should use rail over air…
But is it us making it crowded? (Anyone analyzed this?)
Today's historic #photo of the day: The closed station at Captain's Flat, NSW, November 24 1984.
Captain's Flat is a small copper mining town in the Southern Tablelands of NSW. The railway station was 332km by #rail from Sydney at the terminus of a 34km long branch line that branched south from the Goulburn to Bombala line at Bungendore Junction. The railway had a remarkably short 28 year life; opening to traffic in 1940 and seeing its last train in 1968.
Incompetence. You may recall that the UK's high speed rail building is chaotic. Now even the UK factories expected to build the trains look to be doomed to close, because of a lack of orders. #rail#UKpol
Lack of orders puts future of HS2 train factories in doubt - https://on.ft.com/3VwId6V
This ought to make @jon happy: Finnish Railways VR will now plan and sell travel chains including connecting buses. Some years past I was working on this myself as a third party opetator, and the tech we built is powering the bus networks' side of the system even today. Yes, you can also buy train tickets from the bus networks. That came first.
The #EastCoastRailLink (#ECRL) is anticipated to contribute a 3.8% increase to #Malaysia’s gross domestic product (#GDP) by 2047 by enhancing trade, boosting tourism and stimulating regional development
The ECRL project is more than just a #rail link cutting across #Kelantan, #Terengganu, #Pahang and #Selangor, but can also serve as a cornerstone for economic growth and social progress
The evaluation of the seven Concept Proposals that have been received from firms/consortiums interested in the #KualaLumpur - Singapore #HighSpeedRail (#HSR) project is expected to take 2 months to complete
#MyHSRCorp is still evaluating Concept Proposals that have been received
The results of the evaluation will be taken up for government approval to shortlist the consortia for the next process, the Request for Proposal (RFP)
“Rail fares to rise by 4.9% in England and Wales on Sunday. In London, Tube and bus fares are being frozen and prices reduced during rush hour and on Fridays.” Bloody Islamist controlled mayor keeping the fares down. Why can’t we all have one? #rail#SadiqKhan
In ‘news that should surprise nobody but it’s nice to have it quantified’: high speed rail is less carbon intensive than short-haul flights, even when you take into account the full life cycle (including construction).
In other words, we should be banning short-haul flights and investing in trains.
Can anyone tell me about this #railway carriage? Is it a goods wagon or perhaps for transporting cattle? I'm guessing it could be 100 years old? Of be very grateful for the help of any #enthusiast who might have an idea as to its #history, use, etc.
Just ran across your site, and was wondering if you were aware of the #CascadiaRail project? This multinational "high speed #rail" #HSR has been being worked on by the governments of #Oregon, #Washington, and #BritishColumbia for a line from #Portland to #Seatte to #Vancouver, with a target transit time of ~1 hour for each half. That would be speeds in the 110-125 kph, not truly HSR, but an incremental improvement. Key feature: right-of-way already secured.
😩 #Travel#Japan#Rail
I found an old photograph online that I think is kinda cool from June 1895 of an #interurban line being built in the middle of the street. I believe this is from #Westerville, #Ohio on South State Street.
