Zwar solle das Ticket übergangsweise nicht nur für Smartphones erhältlich sein sondern auch auf Chip-Karten und kurzzeitig auf Papier mit QR-Code, aber wichtig scheint es den Regierenden vor allem anderen, dass mit dem 49€-Ticket Echtzeit-Verkehrsdaten erhoben werden können.
Positiv klingt zunächst: "Es werde nicht gespeichert, wer von A nach B fährt, sondern nur, wie stark die Verkehrsmittel ausgelastet sind. Für die Fahrgäste könnte das ein Nutzen sein, weil die Verkehrsunternehmen so für ausreichend Kapazitäten sorgen könnten."
Allerdings: Das Ticket wird wohl nur als Abo personalisiert erworben werden können, so dass darüber anfallende Personendaten zukünftig schnell integriert werden könnten. Mit Hinblick auf den aktuellen massiven Ausbau des Überwachungsstaats und der Kontrollgesellschaft in Deutschland und der EU (digitale Personenkennziffer/RegMod, Chatkontrolle, Identifizierungspflicht, Biometrie, eIDAS uvm) ist es doch auch gar nicht die Frage ob, sondern nur wann und mit welchem Vorwand (Anschläge, Pandemie, Jugendschutz, Wahlkampf) personalisierte Datenerfassung und Polizeizugriffe kommen werden, sobald die digitale Kontrollinfrastruktur erst einmal errichtet wurde.

Retired social worker Trudi Warner, who faces a possible two years in prison, is asking the Solicitor General to stop proceedings against her for contempt of court. Her alleged crime? Holding a placard.
In March, Warner was standing outside a court in London, where climate protesters were on trial, and held up a sign reading: “Jurors: you have an absolute right to acquit a defendant according to your conscience.”
This legal right was established in 1670, after a judge imprisoned a jury for reaching a verdict he would not accept. The incident gave rise to a new ruling that juries have the freedom to reach decisions independently. Yet holding this sign was enough to put Warner in front of a judge at the Old Bailey – a building with a plaque at the entrance that declares the same legal right.
This coming weekend, the fascists are congregating again at the American Renaissance Conference in #Burns#Tennessee. They have escalated in recent years and must know they are fiercely opposed.

Today in Labor History August 4, 1792: Poet Percy Bysshe Shelley was born. He promoted freedom of speech, ending aristocratic and clerical privilege, and equal distribution of income and wealth. He was also a vegetarian, advocate for free love and an atheist, who wrote about the link between organized religion and social repression. His poems and political writings were admired by Marx, Gandhi and others. His poem The Mask of Anarchy (1819) was the first modern work to support nonviolent protest. It was recited by students at the Tiananmen Square protests of 1989 and by protesters in Tahrir Square during the Egyptian revolution of 2011. Shelley wrote The Mask of Anarchy following the Peterloo Massacre (8/16/1819), when the British cavalry charged into a crowd of around 60,000 people who had gathered to demand political representation, killing 13. He was married to, Mary Shelley, who wrote Frankenstein.

"taz - Dabei wird ja oft mit dem Rechtsstaat argumentiert, wenn es gegen Klimaaktivist*innen geht.
Schönberger: Ja, auch Justizminister Marco Buschmann hat in einer Fernsehsendung gesagt, er sei hier, um den Rechtsstaat gegen Klimaaktivist*innen zu verteidigen. Aber das geht am Kern von Rechtsstaatlichkeit vorbei. Rechtsstaatlichkeit soll eben gerade Macht begrenzen und verhältnismäßiges Handeln von staatlichen Institutionen garantieren, auch im Umgang mit Protest.
In dem Zusammenhang ist die Forderung nach härteren und schnelleren Strafen genau das, was der Idee von Rechtsstaatlichkeit zuwiderläuft. Es ist daher unsere zentrale Forderung, dass auch in einem aufgeladenen Kontext wie den Klimaprotesten Verfahren rechtsstaatlich ablaufen.
Sie finden das Vorgehen gegen Klimaprotest also nicht verhältnismäßig?
Schönberger: Der Verhältnismäßigkeitsgrundsatz, ein ganz zentrales rechtsstaatliches Element, geht derzeit oft über Bord, sowohl beim Einsatz von Schmerzgriffen als auch generell bei Polizeigewalt. Eine kürzlich veröffentlichte, relativ umfangreiche Studie zum Thema Gewalt und Polizeigewalt zeigt: Die Erfahrung macht nicht nur die Klimabewegung. Protest und Aktivismus finden oft in Konfrontation mit dem Staat statt und der Staat setzt sich mit allen Mitteln heftig zur Wehr."

heute Vormittag Bürgerpflicht. In der Kreisstadt droht der erste faschistische Bürgermeister einer Kreisstadt in Deutschland. Am Wochenende ist die Wahl und heute wird gegen den rechtsextremen Kandidaten, dessen Spuren bis zum Dritten Weg führen, demonstriert. Vormittag ist natürlich eine scheiß Zeit. Viel Leute können deswegen nicht kommen. Wahrscheinlich ist das so gewählt, weil heute Markt ist und der Protest ansonsten vielleicht gar nicht wahr genommen würde, weil die Städte hier kein wirkliches Stadtleben haben. Mal sehen wer so kommt. Die Rückmeldung auf die Mobilisierung war bisher mau.
Problem auch, dass die Berichterstattung hinter der Paywall stattfindet. NZZ berichtet zwar Open und der rbb stellt die Kandidaten or. Aber die Lokalzeitung MOZ hat fast alles hinter Paywall. Wer kein Abo hat, hat keine lokalen Infos bis auf die Werbeblätter. Der Tagesspiegel berichtet, auch hinter Paywall. Die mögliche erste Wahl eines AfD Bügermeisters in einer Kreisstadt fliegt medial unter dem Radar. Auch @tazgetroete berichtet nicht, was mich am allermeisten frustriert. Aber wenn am Sonntag das Kind Demokratie ins Wasser fallen sollte dann sind sie alle wieder dabei und dann stehen die Kameras in #Seelow und fragen sie Menschen auf dem Marktplatz wie das denn nur passieren konnte.
Ganz ehrlich, wir sind alleine hier draußen im Kampf gegen die Rechtsextremisten. Seit Jahren. Und wenn ihr kommt, dann immer zu spät und/oder um mit den Faschisten zu reden.

Today in Labor History July 31, 1968: Students protested the Olympics in Mexico City. They occupied schools and began a General Strike. Cops violently attacked them. The violence culminated with the Tlatelolco massacre, October 2. As a result, the cops slaughtered 350-400 people, using snipers. They arrested and tortured over 1,300.
Alejandro Jodorowsky dramatized the massacre in his amazing film, “The Holy Mountain” (1973). In it, he showed birds, fruits, vegetables and other things falling and being ripped out of the wounds of the dying students. The late author, Roberto Bolaño, recounted the massacre in his novel “Amulet” (1999). He also retells the story in his novel, “The Savage Detectives.”
Plotting CCC data on U.S. protests for climate action or environmental protection for the first time in a while, and I see three clear phases here: 1) school strikes era (2017-2019), with low base rate but huge peaks; 2) COVID break (2020-2021); and 3) accelerating action in tandem with spiraling climate crisis (2021-).
