Is there a way to automatically mute accounts identified as being a bot? If not, I think that would be a great feature. That and automatic muting of accounts with posts predominantly not written in your native language. I wish I was multilingual but unfortunately I'm not. #mute#bots#posts#language
For the language issue, take a look at the configuration section in the win interface: there is an option to select the languages you want and those you don't want.
For bots, you will have to block on an individual basis.
The post you are replying to is, and only could be, a joke.
You cite two different rules for hashtags, neither of which is violated in the post you replied to.
One rule (capitalizing each new word) I have consistently followed since before you got here (and no, my joke was not reliant on a mistranslation of it).
The other is your personal preference and ignores that inline hashtags are a reasonable tradeoff between readability and brevity.
I am curious, how many of you still read #blogs as I know this will be somewhat skewd beause a lot of you all are here more techy and such. But do you prefer more video content or even blog posts that have an audio version where you can stream the audio of the post.
Personally I still read blogs, but I will admit where I do a lot of multi-tasking work these days I typically use a screen reader to read aloud the post to me while I work if it is a particularly long post.
@hack13 (technical) blogs for me are usually a way of finding a fix for some specific issue I just ran into, and in those cases I actually heavily prefer text over audio/video, because scanning over some text for your answers rather than having to sit through some unskippable ads and then clumsily skipping through all the useless crap they decided to also put in there, is a lot less frustrating when you already know what you want
Well, and now Mark Zuckerberg announces a test, where #posts in #Threads will be visible in the #Fediverse. That's interesting.
Here on this #instance, I don't see anything, but when I search on journa.host for @zuck, I'll get a SSL-error. So there is something there, even if it doesn't work yet. Anyone with more details?
@mho From my time on #Threads, this would help things here, because there are many pundits/commentators/think tankers/etc. who are active there who were never here, or just dipped toes.
…The #5thCircuit 3-judge appeals court panel subsequently broadened its order this month to extend to government officials w/ the #Cybersecurity & Infrastructure #Security Agency #CISA, saying those ofcls probably acted improperly in trying to coordinate w/ #SiliconValley to protect #elections from #online#hoaxes.
For those unaware, not only are #posts from people #NewHere who add #Hashtags like this in the bod of posts, #annoying for everyone... they make it REALLY HARD for people with screen readers (since most reading technologies will read the hashtags out loud).
Put your hashtags at the end of the post, and use CamelCase to make life easier for everybody.
This might be something for a future Mastodon update, actually. The way Tumblr creates a space for hashtags at the bottom of posts could be a handy feature to adopt here, for instance.
@LouisIngenthron It's a consistent issue I've encountered when speaking to people with visual disabilities, and, from what I understand, the issue's relatively complex. There may be people out there who can better explain why than I can, as well as suggest resources to help.
