FBI chief says Chinese have infiltrated critical US infrastructure
Chinese government-linked hackers have burrowed into US critical infrastructure and are waiting “for just the right moment to deal a devastating blow”, the director of the FBI, Christopher Wray, has warned.
An ongoing Chinese hacking campaign known as #Volt#Typhoon has successfully gained access to numerous American companies in telecommunications, energy, water and other critical sectors, with 23 pipeline operators targeted, Wray said.
China is developing the “ability to physically wreak havoc on our #critical#infrastructure at a time of its choosing”, Wray said at the 2024 Vanderbilt summit on modern conflict and emerging threats.
He added: “Its plan is to land low blows against civilian infrastructure to try to induce #panic.”
Wray said it was difficult to determine the intent of this cyber pre-positioning, which was aligned with China’s broader intent to deter the US from defending Taiwan.
China claims democratically governed Taiwan as its own territory and has never renounced the use of force to bring the island under its control. Taiwan strongly objects to China’s sovereignty claims and says only the island’s people can decide their future.
Earlier this week, a Chinese ministry of foreign affairs (MFA) spokesperson said Volt Typhoon was in fact unrelated to China’s government, but was part of a criminal #ransomware group. #VoltTyphoon#hacking
Not so silent Sunday here today. There were scuffling, scurrying noises from the attic, which I had to investigate because I just couldn’t enjoy my cuppa.
Turns out we had a starling in there, who very much didn’t want to be in there. They flew down from the hatch to a window, and I gently trapped them at the opening side using the curtain, got the window open, and they went out no bother.

This could help people be more aware of #accessibility. Tell #VoiceOver users what they need to know, that they can’t use that program, and if done nicely, maybe encourage developers to consider making their app more accessible as well.
The best editors to use with VoiceOver currently in myexperience, are #Nova by #Panic, and #Textmate.

Diese Weltkarte ist aus meiner Sicht eine der bedrohlichsten Grafiken der letzten Zeit. Sie entstammt der Studie "Future of the human climate niche" von 2020 und hat meiner Meinung nach viel zu wenig Aufmerksamkeit bisher bekommen.
Fokussieren wir uns auf alles schwarze bzw schwarz schraffierte. Ganz in schwarz seht ihr die einzigen Orte auf der gesamten Welt wo heute bereits eine Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur von über 29°C herrscht, was ziemlich tödlich für Menschen ist, sind wir doch an ~13°C Jahresdurchschnittstemperatur angepasst. Diese paar Flecken liegen allesamt in der Sahara.
Schwarz schraffiert seht ihr welch gigantische Flächen bis 2070 laut dieser Studie hinzukommen wenn wir auf dem derzeitigen Pfad (RCP 8.5 Szenario) bleiben. Was Indien und Pakistan gerade erleben ist also nur eine Vorschau auf das Kommende. Ohne Berücksichtigung von Migration wären davon 3,5 MILLIARDEN Menschen betroffen.
Die Studie ist seit 2020 öffentlich zugänglich ( https://www.pnas.org/doi/10.1073/pnas.1910114117 ). Militärs und Regierungen weltweit haben also Gelegenheit sich was zu überlegen. Wenn Staaten und Abermillionen Menschen jetzt bereits verstehen können, dass ihre Territorien bald nicht mehr bewohnbar sein werden....

SEHR viel früher kollabieren immer mehr voneinander abhängende bzw. zusammenhängende Ökosysteme.
Gehen z.B. die Krillbestände zurück hat das unglaubliche Folgen für sämtliche darauf aufbauende Arten... #Nahrungsketten
(mal nachschlagen wie grundlegend z.B. Krills fürs Leben in den Ozeanen sind😱)
Anbaugebiete können keine ausreichenden Ernten mehr liefern, wie bisher.
Transportwege werden durch Extremwetter unterbrochen... #Globalisierung
