#Jacobin writes about "A BBC journalist [who] writes that editors at the broadcaster are afraid of reprimand from their bosses for reporting that displeases the Israeli government, leading to the #BBC’s consistently holding back from reporting the full horrors of #Israel’s war on #Gaza."
Somehow it is difficult to be surprised. Self-censorship the hardest to fight.
#AI#GenerativeAI#AITraining#BigTech#Journalism#Media#News: "Large publishers are forging ahead with voluntary agreements in the absence of legal regulatory clarity. But this leaves out smaller and local publishers and could undermine efforts to develop business model alternatives as opposed to one-off licensing opportunities.
Ad hoc approaches, however, risk worsening the compounding crises caused by the decline of local news and the scourge of disinformation. We are already seeing the proliferation of election related disinformation in the U.S. and around the world, from AI robocalls impersonating President Joe Biden to deepfakes of Moldovan candidates making false claims about alignment with Russia.
Renegotiating the relationship between tech platforms and the news industry must be a fundamental part of the efforts to support journalism and help news organizations adapt to the generative AI era."
Is this fair? US is being a hyprocrite in his stand!
The White House has condemned the loss of life of dozens of civilians as a result of an Israeli airstrike in Rafah, but says it is not planning any policy changes as a result of the Israeli actions.
Three Black men sued American Airlines for discrimination discrimination when they and five other Black men were kicked off a flight in January over a complaint of "offensive body odor."
Anything from Vox Media and The Atlantic is now untrustworthy in any capacity from now on. Remember this when reading or linking to any articles in the future.
"This community of orcas, documented in the Strait of Gibraltar since the Roman Empire, consists of nearly 90 animals. Some scientists believe that all of them now ram sailing boats."
Movement in support of Palestine has taken uproar on social media. Celebraties and eminent personalities are posting in support of Palestine and condemning Israeli attack in Rafah!
"The promises of the fediverse can “solve a pretty huge distribution problem,” Patel said. Instead of spending time building a presence on other platforms for their benefit, a publisher can do that on their own sites — while giving readers the ability to see those posts on other federated platforms." https://digiday.com/media/why-publishers-are-preparing-to-federate-their-sites/
A judge who swore to uphold the law is instead deliberately destroying the law. She is a loyal soldier in a violent insurrection, and a deliberate accomplice in the worst crimes committed against the United States since our first civil war.
The New York Times describes her as "industrious but inexperienced and often insecure."
This is why democracy is dying: Because the New York Times is killing it.
The #ABC's Justin Stevens:
"Laura Tingle's remarks... lacked the context, BALANCE and supporting information of her work for the ABC and would not have met the ABC's editorial standards"
I've got 100s of examples of ABC right-wing bias that go unpunished.
Who paid for Nikki Haley's staged & intentionally inflammatory photo op? AFAIK tourists aren't typically allowed to visit artillery units in combat zones and get hands on with live munitions.
What is going on here? Why does the press seem disinterested in how this eye-candy for pro-genocide Americans came to be?
I feel a little dirty suggesting this, but is there any way we can take the impulse of those who love statistics and following weekly (or even by-the-minute) updates when it comes to organized corporate sports and create news sites that do that for ongoing newsbeats?
That is, not the "if it bleeds, it leads" stuff, but doggedly investigating, going after corruption, etc.? #Newstodon#Journalism#Civics
"There is a mini cottage industry of punditry that is forever on the lookout for the merest hint of disrespect toward #conservative voters, particularly #rural & working-class #white ones. But the fact that the #GOP nominee for president approvingly posted a video that declares a large ideological subgroup of #Americans “done” & “gone” if he is elected... appears to have garnered almost no headlines." https://newrepublic.com/article/181973/trump-media-attacks-media-dangerous-turn
Today, after a year of preparation, we launched our own medium, Page Not Found ( https://pagenotfound.cz/ ), focused on slow journalism. We did it on nights and free weekends as an alternative to the big media houses. We want to focus on slow journalism and it's in our DNA to fight for a free internet without unnecessary barriers. That's why the important stories won't be behind a paywall! We are also working with innovative design. I will be glad for feedback pagenotfound.cz #media#journalism
I just noticed that the Washington Post now has an AI summary tool for some news articles. Not sure whether this tool is only for subscribers or shown to everyone.
Supposedly this summary is "AI-generated, newsroom reviewed" which I guess means that humans do verify that it's accurate?
