Genocide looms again in Darfur. Will the world stop it from happening?

No? No encampments? No shutting down museums and blocking Pride parades? Nobody cares? Okay.

I try to be very objective and, when possible, directly quote the research I share. Here's an example of the opposite. This guy screams "breaking news" about myocarditis and pericarditis "only" in vaccinated children. What he doesn't share:

STUDY found #COVID19 vaccination reduced hospitalizations by ~40%.

Myocarditis and pericarditis were documented only in the vaccinated groups with rates of 27 and 10 cases PER MILLION after 1st and 2nd doses.

Also, it has been very clearly established that COVID-19 infection does cause myocarditis, far more often than vaccines do. So, I wonder what study this person might be referring to.

This is a sledgehammer blow to the foundation of democracy.

One of our nation's bastions of investigative journalism, lately sinking into the toxic mire of both-sidesing-for-profit, has just been swallowed whole by the ever-enlarging fascist propaganda machine.

Folks, Rupert Murdoch and Robert Mercer don't need our help subsidizing their filth. If you have a WaPo subscription, please cancel it now. Here's now:

Dems are docile about the #Felon.

"Sens. Brown & Tester hadn’t said anything as of Thurs night -something that was noted by the Nat. Republican Senatorial CMTE, which is fighting to elect Rs to their seats."

Shouldn't Dem leaders explain what the verdict means?

#TFG may very well not have been elected if he hadn’t committed election interference. It's not something to downplay. He was, in essence, an illegit. pres.: catch & kill, RU interference, incl. SM, hacking…

@KimPerales

Democrats aren't "docile."

Senators Brown and Tester are trying to get reelected this year, in deeply Republican states. If either of them loses, the Democrats will lose control of the Senate.

Among other problems, that disaster would mean losing control of federal judicial appointments. With SCOTUS now an out-of-control bulldozer that is destroying our democracy, we should all appreciate how important federal judges are.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@KimPerales

They don't look "weak." This doesn't make any sense.

Senators Brown and Tester are in far-right states, where Trump is very popular. Their job is not to try to make Trump lose Ohio and Montana. Their job is to get reelected, and it's extremely important that they win. There is no reason for them to sabotage their own chances, and lose the Senate for the Dems, by screaming unnecessarily about a verdict that already speaks for itself.

TheConversationUS, (edited ) to random
@TheConversationUS@newsie.social avatar

Today's conviction of Trump won’t end the legal case, which could quickly be appealed and possibly rise to the level of the US Supreme Court.
It's a historic conviction, no doubt.
But practically speaking, the verdict means only that Trump can't possess a firearm – like all other felons.
A felony conviction won’t keep him from running or serving as president.
A law professor explains a few other key points:

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@TheConversationUS

That's incorrect. Florida allows felons to vote, if they have been convicted in a different state, and if that conviction would not prohibit them from voting under that state's laws.

In New York, where Trump was convicted, felons are prohibited from voting only while they are serving their prison sentence.

It's been a dramatic few days for commercial aviation with passengers on three airlines suffering terrifying ordeals involving severe inflight turbulence. Nadine Itani, Programme Leader and Lecturer in Air Transport Management at the University of Surrey tells FRANCE24's Tom Burges Watson that for every 1% increase in average temperature there's an estimated 10% increase in the frequency of clear-air turbulence.

@Vittoria

Do you think "1% increase in average temperature" may have been a misstatement? A percentage increase is an odd way to measure a temperature change. It's only meaningful in terms of absolute temperature.

SInce the preindustrial era, Earth's mean temperature has increased by 2.43˚C, which is enough to cause massive changes throughout our planet, but only a 0.85% absolute increase.

Will someone dare to show up in my replies and claim this is "antizionism, not #antisemitism"?

They are all over this platform. Although, rather than point at one particular attack like this and call it "anti-zionism," they usually make a blanket lie like "there's no surge of antisemitism now, those dirty Jews are just making that up to discredit any criticism."

A small correction: This antisemitic hate crime took place at 5 AM. I assume none of the children were inside the school when the offenders shot at it.

barney,
@barney@mas.to avatar

@thepoliticalcat

Shooting at Jewish children's schools has become fairly common in Canada. Last November, in Montreal, it happened three times in less than a week.

I think in all of these Canadian episodes the schools were empty when the shots were fired. These were threats to murder children, not actual attempts to murder children.

I’m just gonna say it — this “Genocide Joe” thing is the dumbest fucking liberal shit I have seen in years.

Joe Biden can do more to try to rein in Israel, but Biden doesn’t run Israel. He isn’t CIC for IDF. He isn’t deciding what hospital to bomb. He isn’t deciding what border crossings to close.

You know who is pushing the Genocide Joe narrative? The fucking Russians and the Israelis. Why is that? Well, it’s an election year, and Trump is a hard right, pro-Israel puppet.

For some reason, that seems to be a recurring character type here in the Fediverse: Pro-fascist assholes who sit safely in Australia, totally fucking over 330 million Americans and 5 million Palestinians, while smugly pretending that they're a force of good in the world.

Why Australia? I don't know.

Sure enough, Jake is a pro-Trump account. There's an awful lot of mental gymnastics going on in his TL. Even though the party he's supporting hates Palestinians with genocidally murderous fury, is trying to ban Palestinians from the US, and supports vaporizing millions of Palestinians in their homeland.
