A new bill in Congress would extend some U.S. military benefits to the estimated 20,000 Americans currently carrying out the Gaza genocide as members of the Israeli military.

The US opposition to the International Criminal Court (#ICC) and to international law is obviously self-serving. Israel here is merely providing the Americans with an excuse.
For those who don’t know, the US passed a bill in 2002 allowing the state to use any means necessary to protect Americans accused by the ICC. It’s informally known as The Hague Invasion Act, in case you thought they’d be subtle about it.
Anyone who cares about #Ukraine should be very worried about the USA going after the International Criminal Court to defend #Israel. This will easily be used by the Russian state to avoid accountability over its invasion of Ukraine. Biden is making Ukraine more vulnerable while ignoring large parts of his own base. If this leads to a Trump victory it would be a victory for Putin and a further step in the destruction of even the most basic mechanisms of international accountability.
The Spanish, Irish & Norwegian govts announced Wed that they would recognize a #Palestinian state, saying there would be no #peace in the #MiddleEast w/o it.
Israel denounced the move as giving aid to its enemy #Hamas.
The coordinated announcements are purely symbolic — but not w/o some power.
The leaders of the 3 countries said they hoped their recognition would press #Israel, the #Palestinians & the international community toward a #TwoStateSolution to the conflict.
“In the midst of a #war, w/tens of thousands killed & injured, we must keep alive the only alternative that offers a political solution for Israelis & Palestinians alike: Two states, living side by side, in #peace & #security,” Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store said.
In response, Israeli Foreign Minister Israel Katz ordered the immediate recall of the Israeli ambassadors to #Spain, #Ireland & #Norway. “I am sending a clear message today: #Israel will not be complacent against those who undermine its sovereignty & endanger its #security.”
The #UnitedStates govt reiterated its position that recognizing a #PalestinianState was premature & must be the result of direct negotiations between Israel & the #Palestinians.
UN special rapporteur on torture Alice Edwards is asking Arab states to shoulder the responsibility for the refugees that Israel created. Israel must let them in as the state that is responsible for their displacement and the denial of their rights.
Biden threatened Israel with pulling military aid if it invades Rafah, but Israel is attacking anyway. It won't face consequences so long as Biden remains vague on what amounts to sufficient grounds for suspending military aid.
