Spent some of International Women's Day thinking about a Usenet archive I used for research a while back. It mainly concerns a poll that I found very supportive, especially for 1992. It is about the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival who, in 1991, banned trans women which spurred a protest called Camp Trans outside the festival. The poll was taken in 1992 by members of Camp Trans though the posts in the archive discussing it are from 1993 and, of course, given the timeframe transsexuals was the nomenclature widely used in both the posts and polling. 73% in favor of trans women entry, 4% unsure, and about 23% against; which again I think is a pretty nice showing of solidarity in 1992. They also allowed for additional comments/reasons, which of course not everyone did were also sorted by how common they were; most of the "yes" comments are various flavors of trans women are women (though I find the fourth most popular answer "They have been through enough" to be a hell of a mood). Again very supportive for 1992 even if I think some of the replies indicated they don't 100% get it, they're still supportive. And I think that's an important thing to remember. #trans#internationalwomensday
