Today student groups are visiting our company. One group received funding (75k euro) to investigate how high speed rail can cross non-overhead-electrification gaps on battery.
Their brief states "TGV style train", 300km/hr cruising speed, and 100km battery range.
A very quick thought experiment makes this sound impossible to me (numbers in next post) as the batteries replace passenger capacity. And costs. They disagree.
-there is a lot of excess carry capacity in European high speed trains
-there are weight gains, "just look at the lightweight Japanese style high speed trains" (this one is tricky as they're a completely different system from the ground up).
None of this talks about the 🐘 in the room: whats the point of it all... It sounds a bit like the distracting #hyperloop stuff.
(I will not publicly doxx the student group / funders btw)
Whenever I write about the Hyperloop, I always get some people who refuse to believe that Elon Musk opposed high-speed rail and used Hyperloop to try to stop it.
In a Patreon bonus episode of #TechWontSaveUs, @awalkerinla has even more proof: She saw Musk tell transport planners that cities should stop rail projects.
@threetails ...because unlike #PublicTransport they ain't regulated as a "#Utility Company" aka. "must provide" services unless one refuses to pay or assaults and harrasses their staff.
Also the fact that #BigCar was allowed to buy perfectly functioning #Tram and #Bus networks solely for the purpose of destroying these was never remediated nor banned to this day, which is why we see Apartheid Emerald Boy pushing scams like #Hyperloop solely to sabotage #CHSR which he fundamentally opppses!
I donate to Mozilla every month and will continue to do so, regularly.
The story making its rounds on Mastodon and the Fediverse, is one that was often shared on Twitter, by haters of Mozilla and Firefox. By a "libertarian" with both a political and personal agenda.
Pay it no mind, it is the same nonsense every year. 🙄
Y' know - same people that fanboyed #Musk for #Hyperloop which was only pushed to #defraud taxpayers and undercut #CHSR funding as well as sabotage #HighSpeedRail in general...
As Hyperloop One shuts down, we need to remember that the Hyperloop was never meant to be built.
Elon Musk’s goal was never to transform transportation for the masses, but to stop or delay high-speed rail from reaching North America. Sadly, he succeeded — and we all lost as a result. While the rest of the world moved forward, the US remains stuck in the past.
@sotneStatue It was always just a scam to derail (I'm an awful person...) high speed train projects. All of these proponents of "hyperloop" should be sued for fraud.
@SheDrivesMobility
After soaking up a load of subsidies, & sabotaging several non-hypothetical transport projects, Elmo #Musk's #HyperLoop shuts down, having achieved little, but wasted much.
I wonder how many bus or cycle route improvements could have been made instead with all that money.
