Uninstalling encouragement (edit: to do/tasks/etc.) apps. It’s just not my style. Switching full time to little sketchbook with perma checkboxes of daily tasks. #habits#selfImprovement
The Power of Habit: Why We Do What We Do in Life and Business
In The Power of Habit, award-winning New York Times business reporter Charles Duhigg takes us to scientific discoveries that explain why habits exist and how they can be changed. With penetrating intelligence and an ability to distill vast amounts of information into engrossing narratives, Duhigg brings to life a whole new understanding of human nature and its potential for transformation.
Started using Habitica again. Used it years ago with my daughter. Immediately hooked again. Don't really know why I stopped, I guess it wasn't important to track regular home habits. But I'm noticing if I don't have anything to list my chores with, I start drifting... I forget to water my plants etc.
Habitica is awesome, open source, you can self-host it too!
The Vanishing Act
"All morning I lay down sentences, erase them, and try new ones. Soon enough when things go well, the world around me dwindles: the sky out the window, the furious calm of the big umbrella pine ten feet away, the smell of dust falling into the hot bulb of the lamp. I keep thinking about Chris vT's suggested approach to ultra-processed food: put yourself on a two week 80% UPF diet BUT read/educate yourself throughout about harm it's does you. It will become revolting, and you'll be weaned off it.
Would this work for climate change? Yes, fly to NZ for just 3 days, binge eat beef, splurge on fast fashion, drive everywhere etc, but HERE is your reading list while you do all that... ? Maybe? Has anyone tried?
HabitBoard v1.8 is here with support for interactive widgets on iOS 17 🙌
You can now mark your intentional habits directly from one of the widgets.
In addition, the new version introduces a App Shortcut to mark habits as done, missed, or skipped — perfect for combining it with your favorite meditation or fitness app.
Has anyone here managed to actually get a self care type practice to stick, long term?
If so, how?
I need to meditate because my brain requires it to function at an acceptable mental health level, but despite trying on and off for years, and being completely sold on the benefits, I can't get anything to stick for more than a few weeks.
Mostly I think it's because I haven't found a time or anchor that's regularly doable (pre/post bed I just fall asleep).
