Beefeater is launching a 0.0% spirit (just in Spain for now) that "maintains the brand’s iconic citric and juniper-forward profile but without the alcohol." It's made at Pernod-Ricard's new production line in the south-east of France which opened last autumn. RRP €15.

Bronchitis be damned. After two weeks in bed I need a drink. Tonight’s treat is a #Genever that I got from @parcifal last time he was in Stockholm. If you’re not familiar with Genever, it’s similar to #gin, but comes in way more variations, ranging from transparent to dark/aged, flavored, liqueur or booze. Truly a versatile drink from the Benelux region, and IMHO an underrated one. Cheers!

Playing with my gin collection, and I think this might be my Summer 2023 cocktail. I call it "Neap Tide":

  • 5 sprigs of chocolate mint, muddled in a cup
  • 1.5 oz Newfoundland Distillery Seaweed gin
  • 0.5 oz St Germain liqueur
  • 200 ml Fever-tree Mediterranean tonic
  • pinch of salt

Mix, strain, serve.

Slightly briny, floral high notes, and a bright tingle of mint to remain on the palate. Just like a May afternoon at a Bay of Fundy beach!

#French drinks giant Pernod Ricard has restarted some exports of brands including Beefeater #gin and #Jameson whiskey to russia.

Pernod Ricard said it had resumed limited shipments to "ensure the economic viability" of its russian operations.

But campaigners said the move was "disgusting".

The drinks firm had to U-turn on exporting Absolut vodka to russia last week after a backlash.

IWSC judging today: 61 gins in the classic/traditional category, mostly from Europe but some also from Oceania. Was judging with industry legend Charles Maxwell - quite the treat!

Standard was high. We had about 5 golds. Only 1 non-medal. Rest fairly evenly split between bronze and silver.

Judging again tomorrow too.

There is, according to my transcription bot, something called "London-fried gin".

I wonder what that's like. Is it like a mash-up between a classic gin and a Kentucky Fried Chicken? Sort of a pechuga thing going on?

TBH I'd probably give it a go if I was offered a glass.
