Beefeater is launching a 0.0% spirit (just in Spain for now) that "maintains the brand’s iconic citric and juniper-forward profile but without the alcohol." It's made at Pernod-Ricard's new production line in the south-east of France which opened last autumn. RRP €15.

tutwilly,

@drinkswriter @drinkstodon we are going to sell your awful tasting drink, which now doesn't get you drunk. Good luck with that.

@drinkswriter @drinkstodon fascinating! Wonder if there's any supercritical CO2 extraction in their process

@drinkswriter@epicure.social avatar

@SRDas @drinkstodon now there's a question. I know of quite a few gins using that technique but not sure how much they overlap with these...

@drinkswriter @drinkstodon oh cool - havent followed gins and alcohol too much directly, but curious now as to who/what uses that.

@SRDas @drinkstodon off the top of my head, there's Comte de Grasse's 44ºN, Hepple Gin and Supercritical Gin. Expect there are a few more too.

@drinkswriter @drinkstodon Now that's interesting. I don't drink hard stuff very often. I don't think I've had a gin-tonic for 10 years. But I might try that.

@marksquires @drinkstodon Always good to have options, is what I say. Another good one is the stuff like Adnam's Smidgin, still 40% ABV but over-flavoured so that you only need a teaspoon in a G&T and the whole drink works out at something like 0.5% ABV (assuming 200ml tonic).

@drinkswriter @marksquires @drinkstodon now that sounds interesting

@Meat_Bucket @marksquires @drinkstodon Hayman's do one also, called Small Gin IIRC. Both that and the Adnams come in 200ml bottles that have little measuring spoons attached to help you get the right proportions.

@drinkswriter @marksquires @drinkstodon oooh, even more promising, I love Hayman’s! I always keep their Old Tom and Navy Strength around.

@Meat_Bucket@mstdn.social avatar

@drinkswriter @marksquires @drinkstodon sadly it doesn’t look like it’s available in the US.

drinkswriter,
@drinkswriter@epicure.social avatar

@Meat_Bucket @marksquires @drinkstodon ah that's a shame. Don't think I've seen similar from any US gins - but that doesn't mean there aren't any
