We will have old, otherwise unsupported #computers and #smartphones for visitors to try, as well as some new ones, all running #FreeSoftware.
The oldest, Dell Latitude D600, would have become #eWaste in 2010. If it were human, today it could legally drink alcohol in the USA ... it is that old and, with a little patience, still quite usable!
I'm looking for resources, experiences, conversations, books and papers on revenue models for open source software, as I'm releasing a product that needs to be under GPLv3.
I'm specifically looking into monthly and annual donations and "sponsor a feature" sort of deals on top of service contracts.
There's already interest, so it's more about defining the methods rather than this being possible or not.
A small change to the most recent (Parliament-approved) version of the Cyber Resilience Act (#CRA) is the addition of a requirement that software be "openly shared" in order for the European Union to consider it #OpenSource in relation to the CRA.

@j_bertolotti Yes, I agree with that.
So much sh*t has been produced in recent years and months that it's hard to know where to start.
I find it particularly bad that Windows is still used by so many people (especially at work, where freedom is even more restricted), because this leads to Microsoft establishing itself more and more as a monopolist (they already are, but they don't have to become even more one-sided). I am critical of monopolies anyway. If you add to that the overstimulating advertising and the naive nonsense of companies that only offer proprietary software (usually only for Windows etc.) (because money is everything), then I'm really fed up.
That's why I prefer #linux and #freesoftware
The "apolitical", "we should just focus on the code!", "FOSS is not political", "inclusivity is discrimination!" people need to get kicked out of FOSS projects. Fuck off with your "apolitical" nonsense.
Mostly I don't post, but when I do, it's some mild or hot take about free software. Mildest take: all distros except like five of them (Debian, Ubuntu, Fedora, openSUSE, maybe Arch) suck and shouldn't be used by 99% of people.
#Firefox 125.0.2 is out now to revert the new feature that proactively blocks downloads from potentially untrustworthy URLs as it caused unexpected problems with downloading files in some situations. It will be re-enabled in a future release once it works as expected! https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/125.0.2/releasenotes/
Isn't this the best day of the week to share your favourite #Libre#opensource#freesoftware ? Yes it is! 🤩 This is #LibreMonday 🚀 ! Use the hashtag, no need to respond this post 🥳
I am pleasantly surprised that @kde Itinerary handles Indian railway tickets very well. I kinda knew it would, but I'm still surprised at how well it does.
it seems that local technical #meetups are on life support in many cities. the news about #womenwhocode really set me back this week knowing the impact they have had on many women in the industry.
i would love to hear some positive news about groups that meet regularly that are thriving. link me!
The #Kitchener#Waterloo Linux Users Group @kwlug is still going strong. Although they're looking for folks to make presentations on #FreeSoftware and related things. Remote presentations are welcome, one of the few good things to come out of the pandemic.
Must be coming up on the #KWLUG 25th anniversary soon, too!
