Looking back on #emfcamp, I don't know if anyone else noticed, but as far as I could see there were no LLM or GenAI demos, and I didn't have any conversations about AI/ML with anyone.
Actually, I take it back, there was a really cool video GenAI in the Null Sector. But still...
I didn't manage to fit https://hachyderm.io/@coldclimate/112512932209525390 or the other input devices in the car to bring to #emfcamp swap shop. They're too interesting to bin, of anybody would like them let me know and we'll figure it out. I'm in Gateshead.
An #emf2024 certainly happened. Thank you to everyone who contributed to the arcade: the amazing game devs who exhibited their games, the laser cutters and sponsors who helped us have physical things to put in it, the folks that donated old hardware, and the volunteers who got the thing built and kept it running. And of course, the players! #emfcamp#emfcamp2024
I regret not getting a photo of our tiny installation in the Lounge during dark hours, but delighted that we got to put something we'd built in display. Thanks to Jonathan from the #emfcamp team who found a spot for us last-minute!
Working on the first of my #emfcamp swapshop finds. This is a microswitch joystick. So far I've desoldered the old wiring loom (it was wrecked) and cleaned up the switches a little.
I wonder who the manufacturer was? Looks like "IL" or "JL".
Home and unpacked and ready for a big satisfied sleep after one of the best weekends of my life…. But that’s every #emfcamp, isn’t it? What a magical place ❤️
Not realising that when people warned me Null Sector is "loud" that they meant FUCKING LOUD. Loud in a good way, unless you're attempting to sleep at 1AM … I thought our tent was far enough away… no… it was not. Also nobody warned me Stage B would also be... Rather Loud. 😂
So next time we shall know better, and set up camp… on the moon.
Not possessing a time machine so I can go do it all again a few times to catch all the things I missed and didn't do.
Pretty much the only negatives were down to us being n00bs and it all being a very last minute arrangement. We can do better next time. :)
All in all #emfcamp was better than my highest expectations. A stunning achievement in organisation, logistics, and content that inspires people to get involved and contribute.
#emfcamp was amazing. Amiga set went down a treat which, considering a keyboard fell through the case and one of the screens packed up three tunes in, was a result. So how about next time we upgrade it with some live amiga visuals???
I definitely need to do a(n increasingly rare) blog post about #emfcamp#emf2024 but it will have to wait a few days while I get a few other things done. tl;dr I’m back to the real world after a really, really great weekend.
Important #emfcamp badge #tildagon fact: the screen is replaceable without soldering!!! If something happens to the screen during your travel, don’t throw away your badge thinking it’s broken - you can buy a replacement screen for ~£12. Let’s avoid e-waste!
my first #EMFCamp was such a blast! i had a truly lovely time hanging out with new and old friends, solving puzzles, and learning from so many impossibly smart people 💛✨ #EMF2024
I had a excellent first #EMFCamp. Fantastic programme of talks on the main stages along with an incredible set of community art installations and activities of all types. Also lasers and a gigantic ZX Spectrum!
