A great weekend at #emfcamp#emf24 - thank you to everyone who came to our Night Market stall, or the talk by @andypiper, or www.instagram.com/heidigoseek drop-in workshops, or were just generally lovely to us at any point in the weekend. And a HUGE thank you to all the volunteers who made Electromagnetic Field this year the best one yet! 👏🏻
We rescued a number of creatures during the event, including a crow with a calcium deficiency who now has a tiny splint and is doing well at the wildlife rescue.
A pigeon has turned up to help the bar pack up in return.
A few things you'll hear and say a lot at #emfcamp:
"Don't worry about it, pay it forward."
"Hey, you need a hand?"
"My round!"
"That's a really cool project, tell me more!"
"Oh yeah, it seems hard but there's an easier way to do that! Would you like me to show you?"
I borrowed a blanket off someone in the crew tent at #emfcamp earlier in the week. If I don't spot you today, drop me a DM and I'll ship it back to you. You were a proper lifesaver earlier in the week when my power was out!
A lot gets said about the weird, the wonderful and the quirky at #EMFCamp. I want to call out how nice it was to attend as a parent. My son felt included, made friends, confidence levels soared. I felt comfortable letting him wander a little further, explore a little more. To the person who ran out of null sector and then turned up with ear plugs for my son, thank you. Turns out we humans can be kind.
As we got off the train at Paddington, it hit me how quickly I no longer felt that freedom.
So the tent is packed away, I'm heading home, and #EMFcamp is over for another 2 years. It feels slightly mournful watching the tents slowly clearing away, leaving barely a trace of a wonderful weekend.
Apart from, just maybe, a stranded Blahaj or two.
(Obviously don't actually leave anything, even if it feels emotionally appropriate)
I had the lovely opportunity to talk about my generative art projects at #emfcamp ! Embracing the variety in each and every project is very important to me. That's why producing a new series (for example for my Patreons) can become quite the challenge really quick! So, how do create 50 unique t-shirts when screen printing is not an option? Check out my talk!
Back from my first #emfcamp and reflecting on an incredible weekend, I’ll definitely be back in 2026.
Thank you so much to the organisers, all the volunteers, speakers, performers, spiders and everyone that made all the wonderful things there were to discover around the site. You all did a brilliant job, take a well deserved break!
And also thanks to everyone that attended, it was such a lovely atmosphere and everyone I spoke to was friendly. See you in 2 years.
The arcade was great, filled mostly with modern games and game-like installations! Tesla coil music every night! <3 There was a lovingly-made on-site riddle game (about the murder of Clippy!), and at least two location-based games!
An honestly amazing program of talks, no wonder they rejected mine. :P Interestingly, there were multiple talks by popular British comedians/science educators, who were probably invited to speak. #emfcamp#emf2024
Tickets for many workshops were given out by a lottery before the event – not sure that's my favorite solution, but I guess overcrowding is a hard problem... There was a cinema showing movies every night (including event-related ads in the beginning).
Instead of the Engelsystem, EMF uses a custom-made system, which has less features, but is integrated into your event account, which gives you all functionality you need for the event, including access to tickets! #emfcamp#emf2024
The badge is modular this time, and a lot of people developed hardware extensions for it. The base plate will also be reused across events, to avoid waste, that's a brilliant idea!
Entering Null Sector (a music club + bar + art space + Night Market) for the first time was magical! ✨
Thanks to all the organizers for making this event happen, and thanks to everyone who contributed to it! Almost everyone I met was extraordinarily kind and lovely! <3 #emfcamp#emf2024
