"Condé said the novella addresses themes of apocalyptic disasters in a 'place-based' way, differing from the status quo of global destruction narratives that dominate the apocalyptic genre"

I am so grateful for this media coverage of my SORDIDEZ tour by Keene State student Ryan Pacheco. What a wonderful event!
"#Literature helps us feel the immediacy of what’s at stake in a #climate-changed world. The storytelling in fiction and poetry teaches us much that scientific and policy reports, charts, graphs and forecasts cannot. While data can predict rising sea levels, for example, a short story such as Tommy Orange’s “New Jesus” shows us how it feels to live in a submerged town where residents’ feet are always wet."
Flash Futures PNW 2023 Climate Fiction & Art Contest
"What do you imagine for the future of climate justice work in the Pacific Northwest? Tell us a story about what that work could look like in the future — 10, 50, 500+ years from now. Show us a snapshot of what that future might look like."

🌄 Piknik jest miejscem dla wszystkich. Każdx jest mile widzianx!
The incomparable Hailey Piper says the novella "digs its fingers through fertile layers ... to explore transformative death with a beauty both isolating and unsettling."
👀 The newest #Imagine2200 Editor's Pick story is "When We Are Ruins, Dance on Us" by M Jesuthasan
This story blew my mind the first time I read it! It's from the point of view of the former Supreme Court of Singapore--the building itself! It's a fascinating piece of #ClimateFiction that's both dystopian and hopeful, both grounded and mystical.
"The greatest enemy of good climate fiction is the depression of climate science; too much 'doom-and-gloom' will make readers apathetic and bring about the same dark future you are trying to prevent... there has been a rise in creative work to counter the darker tones of dystopian literature. It’s called Solarpunk: a version of cli-fi with better, fairer societies using the disruption of climate change to create positive outcomes."

“…unputdownable” - Chris Durston, Skullgate Media
An underground city, built centuries ago to ride out the heat. A society under attack. And a young solar engineer whose skills may be the key to saving her city…if she doesn’t get herself killed.
Out now! SOLAR FLARE: Solarpunk Stories from the publisher Zombies Need Brains, LLC contains my story "Walking Through Fog." It's about birth and death, extinction and renewal, in a community that harvests their water from fog harps.
It's an important balance: on-strike actors & writers NEED alternate ways to make money so they can stay on strike as long as necessary... and yet NO SCABS!
I'm not gonna cross the picket line, so it's important to know where it is &how to help my fellow striking artists.
If you've been thinking of making #audiobooks WITH HUMAN NARRATORS...now's a good time.
I neglected to cross-post my review of Aestus Book 2 over here on Calckey.
In summary this second book is excellent - if you loved Book 1, you'll love this (feels like one big book in two parts). And I very much loved Book 1.
It has been a month since I finished the two books and I keep thinking back over them in my head, they had such an impact - I have many more thoughts about the books that I should probably write another review!
I miss that world so much, I'm quite taken aback by how it got into my head - it's a rare experience for me to become this absorbed in a world.
I've read a lot of science fiction over the years - it's my favourite genre - and @szattwellauthor is easily one of the best I ever read. I really can't recommend her books highly enough.
This #ShortFilm explores the love we have for animals, the tension between urbanization and nature, and the connection to all life on Planet Earth that we must cultivate in order to survive the impending #ClimateEmergency.
Congrats to all the quarter-finalists, and here's to more #ClimateStorytelling !
Resisting the annoyingly Canadian urge to say sorry about the fires. Channelling energy into calling my MPPs. Still not enough. Last year we published Rebecca Campbell's ARBOREALITY about Canadian wildfires. Such a beautifully written but intensely scary book which hands local communities back some agency for what they can look like in the future. That (and this) is not the future anyone wants. We all deserve the one possible if we act boldly now.

Stories help us project ourselves into the future and its possibilities, to believe something can be real, and build toward it, before it yet exists. Tell us a story about a sustainable technology, a culture, a world. Help us lean into the future, instead of hiding from it.
