#macOS #cli developers: created a neat #mac CLI tool you want to distribute? I've created a new #python tool AppleCrate that helps you easily and quickly generate a native macOS installer for your apps (not just python apps--works with a binary). Try it out here: https://github.com/RhetTbull/applecrate

I love how there's absolutely no complete documentation of the various error counters for ethtool -S available, that makes debugging a network connection such a joy.

rx_address_errors? rx_rxf_ov_drop_packets?

GOOD LUCK, peasant

Thing that I wish existed: A command-line meme generator. Something that you could call like

memgen --template tintin-wednesday bubble2="Captain, it's Monday"

or

memegen -t surprised-pikachu label=CEO

or

memegen -t 3-spider-men head1=file:tobey.jpg head2=file:andrew.jpg head3=file:tom.jpg

Templates can be downloaded as separate packages (usually with more than one template) or created by the user. Text & images can also be placed manually using coordinates.

I made a CLI status screen on my raspberry pi.

It shows (for now):

  • If my local/remote servers and services are up
  • wttr.in weather report
  • A figlet clock
  • My Astrobotany plant
  • Placeholder: Asciiquarium
  • Placeholder: cmatrix

I'm not sure what to else to put on, maybe a calendar, emails or todo list - still work in progress.

Does anybody else have such a thing? Please show me.

Even better than my previous toot, you can get the names of the running processes for a given architecture with:

osascript -e 'tell application "System Events" to return name of processes whose architecture is "x86_64”’

You can change “x86_64” to ”arm64” for native Apple Silicon processes.

And if you prefer to get process IDs, you can change name of processes to unix id of processes.

OK all you command line warriors, tell me this. Without using the mouse, how do I get the cursor away from the command line to copy something displayed earlier in the terminal. I know how to scroll the window but I need to be able to move the cursor to copy some text. I’ve searched high and low for a solution but so far been unable to get one. Surely command line terminals existed before mice were invented.

I have discovered #cli and just figured out that this package is used in all the cool packages (devtools, usethis) I am using to develop my own package ^^. If like me you did not know all the possibilities of the #cli package, it may be well worth the read: https://github.com/r-lib/cli
