See that board under the #aquarium? That's A.R.T. -- Aquarium Reliable Transport (named in homage to the ship in Murderbot). Daniel made it to ease transport of the aquarium. It has inset boards under it to make it easier to pick up and put down without squashing your fingers. It made moving the aquarium so much easier!
My weekend project to set up my (very first) planted aquarium. It looks fantastic and I'm stoked tbh. The two plants in pots I'm not sure where to put yet.
Then in the refugium there are four filter bags containing essentially pumice of different sizes and pore densities for biological filtration.
Syncra silent pump driving.
What I just added was a denitrate reactor. It pushes up water slowly through the denitrate filter medium (more pumice, essentially, but with a different treatment process).
A lil friend hitched a ride on my aquarium plants. I don't mind beneficial critters, but is this one okay? Anyone know what it is? PS what's the hashtag?
The final day of ‘23, a new orchid flower opened 🤗 The last three are waiting for ‘24, hope the year has more good things in store, peace and unity especially.
To send off the year, a bonus apistogramma and a pleco on leaf cleaning duty for a Red Tiger Lotus, started the tank almost 7mo ago!
One of the things that do not need automation - an #aquarium. It is a self-sustaining system that needs only some light and a bit of fish food.
Nevertheless I automated lights. Previously they were lit 12-13hrs per day. 6 months ago I created an automation in #homeassistant that turns the lights (via #shelly zigbee mini) on at sunrise and off at sunset.
The result: plants went crazy. Never had much luck with #anubias, now they overgrown the tank.
Miss kitty is sitting on a chair beside the table and curiously watching her goldfish friend and wondering “What is that?” You know what they say about the curiosity of the cat.
We finally got a lid for our 44 gallon ADA #aquarium earlier this week. We'd been fine without one until we got the cherry shrimp which like to leap out. It's been shocking how much this has decreased evaporation and it's undoubtedly helped keep the temperature more stable at night too.
I somehow managed to get a picture without any of the cherry barbs or sunset honey gourami's in it -- but you can see the german blue ram in the lower left and the cardinal tetras there in the middle.
I’m in the process of transitioning my aquarium from a Lake Tanganyikan cichlid tank (which has been my jam for a long while) to a simpler community tank. The cichlids are gone now, leaving my three ancistrus (not Tanganyikan cichlids I know. Don’t at me). I’ve gradually acclimatized them from the Tanganyikan water parameters, and am ready to add fish.
The ancistrus are super shy and very hard to get photos of, even when lured out with kelp pellets. #aquarium#fishkeeping
