What saddens me is so many hams think a dipole is best because it presents a "perfect match" of 50ohms. Wrong. A dipole is roughly 72 ohms if you are lucky and wildly different depending on height and structures nearby.
Yagi antennas are even worse depending on the design and often need an antenna tuner hidden at the antenna. Get the lowest loss feedline you can use and don't feel guilty about the tuner in the shack.

How did syuilo find this low-effort shitpost I just replaced a few words on, I literally did not mention him (despite how tempting it is to actually do :koakuma_giggle:, but it kinda is rude to mention people for such a random post :sagume_think:) :koishtare:

Does he have an #antenna listening for every mention of his handle or #Misskey without the hashtag :chuckling_okuu:

While those of us in the Northeast US are doing #storm prep and worried about outages, seems like a good time to remind you that you should get a #TV #Antenna.

You can get a really good one for around $150 (plus the cost of a handyman to stick it on your roof if, like me, you have a thing with heights):

You can search your address here to find out where to point it:

A resonant antenna isn't necessarily great. Mobile whips are made resonant too.

P.S. resonant dipoles are not 50 ohm at resonance either.

Built a out of a wheel spoke and some galvanized steel strips. Seems to work OK but I still have weak reception of a repeater that is basically line of sight. Another repeater is full quieting on receive so I suspect a coax or receiver issue.

Hey lovely folk of , I am planing to make a field portable / for maybe up to 20 meter. I am considering several design choices and came by with the idea of vertical moxons hung from fishing poles. I wonder how this would compare to horizontal and higher hung . Interwebs gave me no answer. I aim to make it simple and compact and vertical idea is good for that goal but I want this to be my efficient antenna so... Any ideas?
