I’ll walk this morning before the worst of the wind we don’t normally suffer arrives.
Then, the future holds, like yesterday, a lot of small tasks in this window between major edits. On May 1st, I start A River in Each Hand.
I do so much better when facing down a major project or crisis, though I’m not in the market for a crisis. I’m a doer, and doer’s have to do, even if what they’re doing won’t change the world.
Spring has sprung here, though it’s supposed to cool off tomorrow. It doesn’t matter, the trees are budding, including beloved Birchy (yes, I name the trees on my walk).
Yesterday, I finished the targeted edit on Trust in the Forgotten as planned. That’s a huge milestone.
This is the day I’ll setup Medicare Part D to start in May with the rest. Last month, the state took Medicaid away so, which wasn’t ideal. 😆
Watermyth is on the SFWA Nebula reading list and even though I was told a couple of weeks back that it had been submitted, I still cannot get over seeing it there. Pinching myself black and blue.
Short story collections. Strong theme, or just the best stories? Can a collection include nightmares and light-hearted stuff? (An experienced author says a good collection does not vary wildly in tone. But my stuff does).

Yes! I've kept a journal since I was 17. I have a large box of filled notebooks in my closet. I don't write every day, but I write regularly. I record mundane things, momentous life events, national news worth noting.
I started it when I was still very aware of my mother's death and not having much to remember her by. So I've always thought of it as something people who outlive me might read and learn something about me.
Mostly an art book, but it is paired with my poetry. 100 FULL COLOR pages. Each page is suitable for framing. Large 8.5x11in size! Hard or soft cover. High end! 80 lb paper.

I guess we have to be a little in love with our storyworlds to sustain a life in writing, right? So yes, absolutely. Every now and then I reread something of mine and go, "Whaaat? I wrote this? Really?! Coool!"
But, there are also (like most of us on this hashtag, I suspect) moments when I am absolutely mortified by ungainly paragraphs, purple prose, awkward phrasing and typos by the million. And we all know draft zeroes are things that most of us dread to return to reading.
But, the moments of joy are what sustain me. I suspect they sustain (most of, your mileage may very) you too.
