for

  1. Yummy South Indian Lunch with 4 types of veg, juicy fried chicken drumstick and shrimp curry. Hey, it's Monday and I needed the fortification for teaching.
  2. Listening to The Cure all day because the weather requires it.
  3. Finally catching fish on . I'd all but given up because fishing is so impossible on the iphone.

Hi Masto, I'm home. The day began with the wind and rain which had me wanting to listen only to The Cure during my commutes and while I was prepping for class. Can the eyeliner be far behind. I jest. My eyes are far too sensitive for eye makeup these days and all of my fancy eye makeup palettes are going to waste.

It was an okay day. Another Drama Lab with my Oral Literacy MA Students. Their big project for this semester is connected to The Lady's Not For Burning. My approach to Oral Literacy is Oral Literacy x Pop Culture x Performance Studies. I'm enjoying it! I always enjoy teaching performance as it takes me back to some of those roots (I did two years of a performance studies x literature PhD before I defected fully to lit to be a Gothic scholar)

for a very rainy and windy

  1. The music of has been keeping me super-chill for the past two frenetic weeks. I've been listening to A La Sala on repeat.
  2. Did a whole lot of work on articles and other stuff this morning, clearly in my Super Academic phase. By end of the week I'll be an exhausted and limp bundle, though.
  3. Scored a jar of peach preserves although it required me extroverting myself enough to ask a nearby tall stranger to grab it for me from a tall shelf. (I'm 5"6 but the shelf was considerably higher). Tall dadbro (with toddler) was momentarily puzzled but acquiesced. Whatevs, I was embarrassed but YAY I finally got a new jar (finished the other one already).

for Monday 😴

Peaches! Peach trifecta edition.

  1. Last week I discovered the local store was having a sale of peaches from Egypt so I bought a carton. When I got home I discovered to my delight they were YELLOW PEACHES. To explain, whenever there's stone fruit season, locally they tend to stock only white peaches when I really prefer the more tart and juicy kind (aka yellow peaches) which I had in abundance in Australia. So I went back the next day and bought another two cartons. 😹
  2. The local pharmacy's store brand body shower had peach scented variant which possesses all the things more upmarket brands could not give me. Also at a member's only discount of...RM8. For a TALL BOTTLE.
  3. Peach and coconut scented candle is burning right now to complete my peach fragrance bliss.

Guess how much I love peaches.

@3goodthings

mythopoetica,

@3goodthings If I had time and energy to spare plus an ice cream machine (which requires counter space that I do not have), I'd be making peach ice cream.

Watermyth is on the SFWA Nebula reading list and even though I was told a couple of weeks back that it had been submitted, I still cannot get over seeing it there. Pinching myself black and blue.

mythopoetica, to fantasy

I'm thinking about the recent romantasy turn in fantasy/romance novels and how the Cantata books may have fit, say, 10 years ago. But in that time I grew old and then decided I didn't want to force spiciness onto my novels and removed most of it.

I still think one of the spiciest scenes is when they are reading books together and...not a single piece of clothing was discarded. 😉

Slow burn indeed. Mind you, I enjoy reading #romantasy every now and again. I'm just not sure I'm the right person to be writing it. Spiciness is just too much work and I'd rather be focusing on other things!

There's a fair bit of romance in Cantata of the Fourfold Realms but most of it is low-key and organically building up.

Well, since I still appear to be on Masto today, here's another .

  1. I wrote three poems today which weren't half bad. Good start to my National Poetry Month challenge (a day late but three poems means I'm still ahead...for now)
  2. Today's music: PJ Harvey, Grizzly Bear, Andor soundtrack, Jessica Pratt, Hauschka
  3. Managed to gather enough energy in the evening to make my beef stroganoff which I shall pair with buttered papardelle for the rest of the week.

How would you describe your work-in-progress's ideal reader?

I have been saying this since my teens -- "I'm writing for that lonely booknerd who discovers my book by accident in a library or bookstore and when they read it, they will feel like they are coming home."

I feel this is a rather tall order, really. But if even one lonely booknerd feels like my words are like coming home, I've fulfilled my brief.

239 -- How does your MC feel about babies, children and teenagers?

Aila's kind of ambivalent about it. The reason is because in previous versions of and , she was already a mother and grandmother but then I realized it didn't ring true for her character and the nature of her connection with [spoiler]. But definitely she's nurtured plenty of the people on the island and in things are going to get somewhat interesting where that is concerned. 🌹
