Since you've had to endure my stressed-up babble on your feed the past 24 hours, I will post #3GoodThings for more positive vibes.

  1. I'm so relieved that so much of what I was stressing out about re: publishing #Watermyth is so easily fixed.
  2. Great music: mostly Debussy and Ravel but also the playlist I made of my favourite indie tracks from 2023.
  3. Peach and Apricot scented soy wax candle leaves my bedroom smelling delicious.

Happy Holidays, all!

Last night I also found out on insta that @gitarra has passed on from her 5-year battle with Cancer. She was always so kind and supportive of women musicians and did so much for documenting the work of women composers not just in #classicalguitar but in #classicalmusic overall.

Vale to a brilliant and brave soul. You will be missed.

Well, I had post-music exam extreme exhaustion today but I hope this means I'll sleep well. Goodnight masto, I leave you with a Harold Budd x Robin Guthrie collab. Because you know this kind of music is my jam:

So, tell me what you would do in this scenario.

You gave your full manuscript to an agent a few years ago who gave some comments, asked for revision, and then ghosted you.

Flash forward a couple of years later, he's agenting a book that has eerie similarities to yours from the background, to the plot, almost beat by beat.

What do you do?

I'm not kicking a stink, because the industry is morally bankrupt and it's not the first time this has happened to me.

I'm just self-publishing mine and I've got some excellent blurbs but you know it's going to be buried by shit like this.

#3GoodThings for Tuesday:

(1) These cute little gingerbread biscuits from M&S are so yummy. Buttery and not to sweet!
(2) Listening to Bryan Ferry's These Foolish Things (album) as I crushed deadlines earlier.
(3) Apart from some mild chronic pain episodes, reached my third checkpoint in my tapering off of gabapentin without much event. Onwards to the next checkpoint in another 48-50 hours (roughly 51 hours today).

I won't be able to do the bells-and-whistles, pre-order stuff etc hoopla associated with a debut novel especially since I am self-publishing. And I don't think I'll be able to capture the attention of #BookTok but, I'll do my best to publish #Watermyth this month. It'll be a super-modest debut but if I don't publish it in 2023 I'll be so disappointed in myself.

RIP Benjamin Zephaniah.

I'm heartbroken, I used his poetry in my creative writing classes for many years.

The first thing I did after watching episode 11, season 3 was google "Uncle Ono" because...?????

I suppose we treat this like an anthology show and not expect temporal continuity? I mean there was an indicator from episode 1 of the season, I guess.

The other thing about Clone Wars is that it makes me SO MAD again about how they did Amidala wrong in Revenge of the Sith.

Really enjoying #seanshibe 's Profesíon. I'm not sure it's going to beat my listening record when it comes to Camino, or Dreams and Fancies, but it may come close...

I'm very sleepy and tired. But I am glad I did my webinars after all this year. I was going to skip a year but I find it (albeit exhausting) intellectually energizing especially since I can't go for physical conferences.

So, 's been great for my return to being more mobile post spinal-injury of 2022 and this long process of recovery. I love the fact that my buddy is unearthing eevee candy with every milestone imported from Apple Health. Also, because I added people from around the world (for the gift-giving quest), I felt too embarrassed to keep giving the gifts with the same postcards (from the same pokestops) so I'm exploring a bit more after work and during my commute. All things that are needed so I can add a little more mobility and adventure to my days.

Here are the other posters (and the original poster) for the Memory Studies in Literature and the Humanities II: Memory, Space, and Mobilities webinar.

The webinar will feature a keynote from Professor Emma Bond who will be talking points from her second monograph "Writing Migration Through The Body" which was really helpful for me in working through the knotty subject of mobility in relation to memory. Apart from that, this webinar is very much postgraduate oriented and will feature 7 supervisees of mine, and papers from me and an academic collaborator/friend (Dr. Sanghamitra Dalal). We'll likely be closing registrations by Monday as we already have 129 registrations so if you were interested and thinking about it, do sign up as soon as possible.

#3GoodThings for a rainy #Thursday

  1. Today's music (so far): Bombay Bicycle Club, and a whole lot of Father John Misty. I'm going to be listening to #debussy all night now though.
  2. I enjoyed going grocery shopping even though I was tired, because I came home to change out of work clothes, and got to wear my darling denim jacket (not always possible in this climate).
  3. I got my favourite Malay grilled squid and nasi campur for lunch. It's getting more and more pricey so I only treat myself every now and then.

for while I try to stay awake.

  1. Today's music: some classical (Debussy) but mostly I woke up with St. Vincent in my head so I listened to her 2015 album on the commute and later while working. Then segued into Father John Misty. Good times.
  2. Visited new-to-me pokestops and a good gym battle after my afternoon trip to the pharmacy!
  3. Started prep on the paper I swore I wasn't going to present on Tuesday and am now quite academically pleased with myself.

#3GoodThings for #Tuesday

  1. My chicken bulgogi ramen, and super yummy apple + butterleaf lettuce salad for lunch. Also, cake.
  2. After nearly a month, the carpet I ordered finally arrived and is really pretty. I find I'm not ready to let go of my "Tower of the Rosewater Goblet" (bought with some of the proceeds of that story sale) carpet, though. So will have it cleaned up and will put it in "Costumes Room".
  3. Just glad to be home after a long day and in my pjs.

Do you make up words for your books? If so, any tricks you’d care to share?

Depends on the genre. If fantasy then yes, with much gusto. No tips because everyone's different and my mind is a very strange place; my sense of humour even stranger. I also have a deep love for

Exhausted #3GoodThings for today:

  1. It's nice to be in pjs and home after a long working day.
  2. Hot chrysanthemum tea on a rainy evening always hits the spot.
  3. Yesterday's late night payasam also hits the spot for tonight's dessert. So lovely! (also all gone now).

As a bonus, here's a quick #desi meal hack: if you're out of indian vermicelli or can't find it, spaghettini works really well and has exactly the right texture for payasam. Just don't tell the italians you're using it in an indian dessert! 😉
