@VileLasagna Has a blog post on the relative speed of different #GPU compute frameworks on the same hardware and driver.

Tl;dr: on an #Nvidia card, with Nvidia drivers, #CUDA is the slowest, by far. Fastest is our old stalwart #OpenCL - almost twice as fast when used only for compute. #Vulcan is good, and the least affected by using the card for your desktop at the same time. Read it - it's good.

Carrying #NASA science planned for the #Moon, #ULA successfully launched its #Vulcan rocket & Astrobotic’s lunar lander early this morning. Astrobotic’s #Peregrine lander experienced a propulsion issue after the spacecraft entered its operational state. This prevented #Astrobotic from achieving sun-pointing orientation. The company is assessing & will provide more info as it is available.

So, you know how #ULA didn't show any telemetry during this morning’s #Cert1 launch of #VulcanRocket?
What they did show was a telemetry driven 3D animation - this allowed me to reconstruct parts of the trajectory using photogrammetry.

Looks like ULA #Vulcan had a good first launch.

#Vulcan flies! Can it make it to the Moon?

simonbp,

Good staging, already doing before the first flight of that other big methane rocket #Vulcan

simonbp,

MECO and in orbit, #Vulcan performance looks great

Looks good for TLI, but I'm going to bed

The story of #ULA during its first decade was its #monopoly on #US 🇺🇸 launch contracts. The story of the second decade was the unraveling of that monopoly. In the third decade, we will find out whether the empire strikes back https://arstechnica.com/space/2024/01/with-vulcans-liftoff-imminent-united-launch-alliance-flies-into-uncertain-future/

Headed to Florida for the launch. My dad's ashes are with the payload. It's been a long .

Fun fact, my grandmother worked for Convair for 30 years, including during the time the first was in development. She had a top secret clearance, so we never really learned exactly what she worked on.

📆 Nov 15, 2023 #ULA is seeking to scale up production of the #Vulcan rocket to reach a cadence of two launches 🚀🚀 a month by the end of 📆 2025. That seems rather ambitious and might be asking a lot of suppliers, including engine manufacturer #BlueOrigin. https://arstechnica.com/space/2023/11/ula-chief-on-the-vulcan-rocket-the-path-to-flight-one-is-clear/
