As @miona is still on VGM Wednesday theme hiatus, looks like @CM30 jumped in with a theme of "Surprisingly Dark Themes."
For that, I think I want to go with Sonic the Hedgehog.
It shouldn't be surprising, but every time the short tune for drowning comes on, it is jarring and anxiety inducing. Even with no video game context to go with it.
Since #vgmwednesday has no official theme yet, I’ll start one for #surprisinglydarkthemes, aka songs that sound way more menacing than their context in game likely justifies.
For me, I’ll post the theme for the ending in #LuigisMansion 2… it’s surprisingly menacing for a theme played for everyone enjoying themselves after saving the world:
Since @miona is still on hiatus for the hashtag, there's no formal VGM Wednesday theme.
So, I'm going with my favorite K.K. Slider song, K.K. Robot Synth, cause I want to share it and keep the hashtag around this week. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l85224VytME
Since @miona is taking a break from VGM Wednesday for January and I really want to see this hashtag still up and running - here's some music for the week.
With no theme, let's go with the Minibosses 2005 album "Brass." Check out their fantastic cover album with all sort of great video game tunes https://minibosses.bandcamp.com/album/brass
:ablobcatheadphones: The BBC has this really cool program "The Sound of Gaming" about gaming soundtracks and #VGM expertly presented by Elle Osili-Wood. Every episode is exploring a different topic - Elle’s guest in this week is composer Petri Alanko who talks about his music for #AlanWake2 and the series.

For @miona's VGM Wednesday, I didn't play any games released in 2023. So I'll go with something I played in 2023, but came out in 2022. Only official link I could find was for Astra Tanuki's Bandcamp. So here's a link to the whole album XD
Sorry, I have no idea what people dance to, so I'm opting for #Castlevania music where the dancers actually were dead. Michiru Yamane's "Iron Blue Intention" (originally from #CastlevaniaBloodlines) plays in a portion of #PortraitOfRuin with Ghost Dancers flying about.
For #VGMWednesday the theme is something to perk a tired party up, and mine is less about dancing and more about getting the entire room to start singing lyrics. Also I am bad at this, please understand.
Uncontrollable, from Xenoblade Chronicles X. Composer Hiroyuki Sawano. If you fought enough big monsters, you can at least scream sing the first lines.
For VGM Wednesday, by @miona the theme is Revive the Dancefloor... This is kind of cheating, but DDR is how I found smile.dk in the first place and the first thing I thought of lol.
This week for @miona's VGM Wednesday, she has given us a theme of "Let's Take a Breather" - talking about music from calming moments in a game. Such as save points, hub areas, or villages.
For me, as an Animal Crossing lover, the opening music is such a calming moment. Yes, it's before the game even starts, but it's mellow and soothing, setting the tone for playing hours of cozy gaming. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lI_C1Bjdqn4
Today's #VGMWednesday theme is Let's Take a Breather, all about safe rooms or non combat areas.
I love the original Luigi's Mansion, which used it's main theme in many arrangements of different instruments depending on the mood of the scene.
The theme that plays in E. Gadd's Lab between chapters is a nice synthy arrangement
The theme for @miona 's #VgmWednesday is #LetsTakeABreather and the first thing jumped in my mind like an angry kangaroo is the save point theme from the beautiful game Transistor.
