I'm still getting accustomed to the Fediverse. I played/watched a bunch of video games and might want to tell someone about them. My tabletop RPG days are behind me.

@OutofPrintArchive "Castlevania, another game I've never come close to beating..." I recommend the Castlevania Anniversary Collection for Castlevania 1. It includes the Japanese version which has an easy difficulty option right on the title screen.

@OutofPrintArchive Since Mario Bros. was also mentioned in that video, if you haven't seen it @bill did a stream while playing 2 different NES versions of Mario Bros. The second one from 1993 has some improvements.

remember when trump said if we just stop testing for covid it would go away as if by a miracle and everyone thought that was a scandalously stupid thing to say

on an entirely unrelated note since 3 weeks ago the CDC no longer requires hospitals to report covid hospitalizations and now biobot is no longer showing covid wastewater data for the US

JTO_is_Typing,
@JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games avatar

@eniko Biobot lost the National Wastewater Surveillance System contract to an Alphabet/Google subsidiary called Verily in September, but there was a transition period.

https://coviddatadispatch.com/2023/10/08/the-cdc-has-a-new-wastewater-surveillance-contract-heres-what-this-means-for-public-data-sources/

JTO_is_Typing,
@JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games avatar

@qkslvrwolf I didn't find Biobot until after the contract expired, so I couldn't compare number of reporting sites before and after, but they had some big gaps in the Midwest. Illinois only had 2 counties working with them, neither of which were anywhere near the most populous.

Meanwhile, the City of Chicago's Microsoft Power BI graphs may be part of the "abundance" of publicly available wastewater data the Biobot blog mentions, but they don't show the full dates on the data points anymore.

Another thing I don’t normally do is recommend random streamers.
But there are exceptions to everything I guess.

While I don’t enjoy Battlefield any more these days, sadly, I used to play it all the time up to BF5.

Yet I still love watching his daily highlight videos.
His channel got hacked yesterday by some crypto scum and he just got it back, but lost a bunch of subs.
So if you like his videos, I know you’ll make his day.

This one is not indicative of the vids

@OutofPrintArchive I've got a Batttlefied question. There was a slight crossover with Mass Effect 3's multiplayer, since there's a Battlefield 3 version of the soldier class. Does the orange glow on the character model's left side mean anything in the context of BF3 or was it only found in that game's cover illustration? There was also going to be a Battlefield 3 version of the infiltrator class which had the same glow.

@OutofPrintArchive With the way Mass Effect goes, I originally expected it to be a sign of some super soldier project the multiplayer devs thought could fit the lore.

I really love this video.
Despite the clickbaity title, he’s extremely level headed in everything he puts forward.
And picks on one of my biggest pet peeves: the authoritative critic, who words their opinion pieces in such a way that leaves no room for different viewpoints or experiences.

I actually didn’t have the original Castlevania back in the day. A friend did, so I did play it lots.
But I did get Simon’s Quest and loved it, despite being imperfect. 😊

@OutofPrintArchive I didn't own a copy of Simon's Quest until the Castlevania & Contra Collection on PC. But, I had Nintendo Power back issues. Neither the issue featuring the game nor the Counselor's Corner 2 issues later explained what the white crystal would do. The instruction booklet was also trying for more humor than instructions, perhaps misleading in regards to the red crystal.

@OutofPrintArchive As someone who ended up calling Nintendo's hint line for Zelda 2, I can see how some people might have resented the combination of sources of vague hints and misdirection from the game itself. But, I also appreciate action RPGs and Simon's Quest was definitely one of those. The time limits for the endings push it into the more challenging end.

So last year I watched Batman: The Animated Series, Batman '89 and Batman Returns. A friend lent me a copy of Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth. I thought all of those were great.

I recently watched the Harley Quinn animated series. The same friend lent me a copy of Superman For All Seasons, Dark Night: A True Batman Story, and Batman: Hush. Then I bought these through a combo of my local hobby shop and Target's buy 2 get 1 free sale.

I might have a problem. 😆

JTO_is_Typing,

@LadyMarth01 Paul Dini also wrote some of Batman Beyond (including the two part premier), but I watched it when it was on Netflix and I could easily access the Justice League Unlimited crossover episodes (one of which was an epilogue for Terry after his series was cancelled). There were also comics, but I don't think Dini wrote any of those.

@OutofPrintArchive I'm surprised it wasn't a notable thing that you could play long Game Boy games without the limitation of battery life. As to their suggestion of two-player Game Boy games, I only recently learned Killer Instinct's handheld port was made to use two SNES controllers on SGB. I don't know if that's more or less niche than using Hori's Super Game Boy controller to play SNES Killer Instinct.

@OutofPrintArchive Wikipedia has a list which you can sort by that feature. I didn't know some games also have multitap support. If it is accurate on Donkey Kong having that, I have no idea what that would do, unless it allows for even more players trying to draw on the screen while you play.

@OutofPrintArchive "It's all 3D now, but we much preferred the GBA port's graphics..." The GBA port had a really buggy implementation of the Active Time Battle system, to the point where your characters might never get turns anymore. One character's high-level HP growth was also bugged in US (but not EU), so while I finished the game and got to the GBA bonus dungeon, I gave up on playing any more of it.

DS did change the way item drops are handled for the worse, but that's my only negative.

JTO_is_Typing,
@JTO_is_Typing@mstdn.games avatar

@OutofPrintArchive Most bugs in FF aren't disruptive. FF4's item duplication was widely published.

I think that reviewer would have considered the 2011 PSP version the best way to play. I didn't have that handheld, but I heard plenty of praise for it before the Pixel Remasters.

I really enjoyed the voice acting and script in the 3D version. It also had a music player in the extras. You could close the lid of the DS and instead of going into sleep mode it would still play the soundtrack.
