Here’s a piece of my IRL adventure from one of the settings of my #TimeTravel epic. Just one more bit of research I mention back on #Day21.

The universe is a vast, wondrous and strange place. What would happen if you traveled through it in a straight line forever? Could you return to your starting point? The key lies in understanding the expanding universe. Simple, right? Big Think unpacks it all in this head-spinning article by Ethan Siegel that will have you asking what the original question was.

The thing I am most interested in is time travel. I would be real interested in connecting with people on mastodon that have same interests 👌🏾
I tried writing a book last year but lost interest. Need more inspiration 🙏🏿

@Jaden3 Here is another diagram that I find helpful in understanding re the speed of light in. It depicts intervals. A cone is positioned on 3D axes. The vertical axis is time, two (for simplicity) horizontal axes are space. The narrowest point of the cone is at the origin; the here and now. inside the cone are called time-like. Outside the cone world lines are space-like. Time travel involves going from time-like to space-like world-lines.

@Jaden3 is related to faster-than-light travel from inside to outside the spacetime interval light cone. It makes be dizzy trying to interpret multiple world lines using this chart 👆🏼, but it can be done. Have fun!

Five stars: A Quantum Love Story by Mike Chen (2024) begins with the explosion of a particle accelerator somewhere near San Francisco in the near future. Carter is a technician at Hawke, and although this is our first time through the loop, he knows what to expect. He's been tracking it in notebooks, although the notebooks reset every time but the act of writing it down helps him remember. This time, though, he decides to take a different path, and he runs into Mariana Pinada, setting in motion something that will eventually save the world.

WAYNE'S 2024 BOOKS: BOOK 12

This Is How You Lose the Time War
by Amal El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone

I found this book recommended somewhere, possibly reddit.com, and reserved it at my local library, but the reservation came through while I'm in the middle of slogging through a long non-fiction book about pirates. But it was due back soon, so I decided I better get my A into G and read it. Can I say how glad I am that I did so? It was a great palate cleanser from the dry (yet not unentertaining) historical work, and I smashed through it in a couple of days.

The format lends itself to a quick read, and it's not an overly-long work. Two time-travelling warriors from opposing sides of a sprawling temporal war draw the attention of each other and begin to spar through deed and plot over centuries, trading missives encoded in reality that begin as mental sparring but soon progress to something else. It's a war story, it's a love story, it's a tangled tale of time travel that turns out to be not so complex as to overshadow the complex interplay between the pair known only as Red and Blue.

The writing is poetic and multi-layered and filled with subtlety, humour and wonder. Concepts that could provide an adequate spine for a whole novel are presented in mere sentences, but you don't mind because the complexity of the ideas washes over you in delicate prose, and a new concept has already been delivered, and it's just as thought-provoking as the first! It's LGBT-affirming, it's surprising and heartfelt and inspiring, and I'll be looking out for works from both of the authors as the year progresses!

Astrophysicist says he's cracked the equation for #TimeTravel
By Sanjana Gajbhiye, 22 Mar 2024

…''[Prof. Ron] Mallett’s theory comes with a significant constraint. “You can send information back, but you can only send it back to the point where you started operating the device.”

In this sense, the #TimeMachine is like a one-way message service to the past. You can’t travel to a point before the machine existed''…

Mar 21 How many times do you use the phrase ? (catching up after being crazy busy with another WIP).

So, doing a quick count. The draft has 119.4k, and this phrase is used 115 times.

Huh. Well, i still have some editing ahead. and out of these, 27 are "time traveler".

Too much??

It's very subjective when a #visualnovel suddenly starts getting interesting and gripping. To me, it only happened in chapter 6 in #SteinsGate. Chapter 5 was OK, but before, it was a real slog. I've been playing the game for months on-an-off like a boring relationship you can't end. It's nice that the story finally picked up for me, but why only after 10 hours? I recommend the game, but damn, it took me a minute. #videogames

helligbird,
@helligbird@gamepad.club avatar

I already laughed, cried, everything. The game reminds me of "Doomsday Book" by Connie Willis that I've finished recently. These stories, when well written, can be unpredictable and full of meaningful human connections. And there's way too much that can go wrong 😅
