"My long-term vision for RedReader is to restructure the app to more easily support other sites, including Lemmy" -RedReader
RedReader is a Reddit app with over 100k downloads on the Google Play store
"I think it would be cool to work with some kind of "open forum protocol" which would allow a variety of websites and apps to interoperate with each other through a uniform API."

I'm working on a doc with estimates for releases schedules (private and public) and feature timeline. It'll be an evolving doc but wanted to give more clarity in terms of expectations for everybody!
I'll share the doc EOD (PST).
But basically, private beta will start ramping up end of month. Initially supporting #kbin instances. But adding #lemmy support midway.
Last week the #Fediverse opened our arms to half a million new users. Many of them migrants from another enshitified corporate dumpsterfire. Together we are building out incredible new applications that realize our amazing collaborative federated infrastructure. We are now engaged in open animated exchange about how to safeguard our precious platform while allowing it to grow to its full potential. These are good and vital discussions. We got this.
@OldWhite Actually, more interested in getting back to #kbin and other #threadiverse matters, but appreciate your sentiment. It would be great if they and others would find the courage of their convictions, cease contributing their content to the Twitter hellscape and join Mastodon.
An exceptional (and quite non-techy) rundown of the rise and current state of the #threadiverse, thanks largely to the ongoing self-own that is the #RedditMigration (called #Rexit or #Rexxit).
Funny how when #BlueSky got the first few thousand accounts all of tech media immediately started tripping one over another covering it and getting a collective aneurysm. :blobcatroll:
Meanwhile, #Threadiverse gets ~70k accounts over 2 weeks, and (with the fine exception of #Techdirt) not a peep. :blobcatgiggle:
@rysiek@schmittlauch Ah! Misunderstanding! I assumed #Threadiverse refers to the name of Meta’s P92 project (assumed "Thread"), but you mean the Reddit-alikes.
Even though #Reddit is in the same business ase Meta' Twitter, TikTok, and other social media companies by making money off of freely supplied user content, it's different in that Reddit primarily focuses on the community rather than individual profiles.
Now that the CEO has been doubling down on his rhetoric to kill 3rd party apps and remove powerful mods from large communities, he's effectively killing those very communities.
Look, we just received the thinly veiled threat from reddit in our modmail, we were starting to make plans in case we'd need to move off reddit, they're not fully ready yet, so in the meantime, we're rushing headlong into full malicious compliance babyyyy. From "landed gentry" to the king in charge: hope you enjoy what you've made this website become.
Memes about being trans or discovering that you are trans will henceforth be deleted. Bring me pictures of eggs, dammit!

Frequently seeing users expressing confusion about the workings of kbin.social and the larger fediverse. Thought it was worth making an intro guide to iron out some of the wrinkles in the understanding of how all of this works in hopes of diminishing the barrier to entry the idea of federated content seems to pose. Some of this...
One of the cool things about the #redditmigration & the rise of #Kbin & #Lemmy is it is a big positive to both the #threadiverse and the existing users on the Fedi:
On the Threadiverse side: Lots of brand new blood from fleeing Reddit new users now discovering the Fediverse for the first time. New blood. New ideas.
On the Masto/Fedi side:
I think many are seeing REAL federation from/to an entirely other type of Fedi platform for the first time in the wild.
It really works. Opening eyes.
I don't know if this makes sense to anyone else, but this is how I'd currently Doing Fedi.
Kbin & Lemmy have become some awesome resources for finding interesting new people, posts and communities, but in both cases I find their user interface to be clunky as hell.
So what I've found myself doing is using my account on kbin.social to discover some amazing new people and groups, and then following them from this Mastodon account.
Yes it's clunky having to cut and paste the follow details into the Mastodon search box, but once they've been followed I can pop them into a list or add a personal note on the account as to why/where they were followed, and from then on keep almost all the interactions via Mastodon.
Mastodon servers can report information about the hashtags that are trending, and #Tusky now shows this information for you. It's accessible from the left-hand navigation menu, and you can also add it as a dedicated tab.
I've attached a screenshot so you can see what it's like.
@nikclayton@Tusky Y’all guys do amazing work. May more #Fediverse & #Threadiverse applications follow your lead, especially with adding ‘custom accessibility actions within menus for #Talkback & other screen reader apps such as #Jieshuo.
