E.E. Cummings says that this is "the deepest secret nobody knows", that "a tree called life...grows higher than soul can hope or mind can hide". Not for mere metrics or measurements. Perhaps not even for itself alone. But to provide a canopy of deliverance and awakening in the world. A place of refuge. A home. Maybe this is how a tree speaks. Maybe this is what a life is for...
I love trees endlessly, but my greater understanding started with a stone.
My path has been following one that resembles evolution, but I found out today is more like the kind of emanation found in the theosophical belief system.
Birds feature in my story, as well, Macaws. Definitely beasts.
I mostly used it as a curated home page, with a mix of news (world and local), sports, tech content, gaming content, and of course memes and shitposts.
Just like with #Twitter, I never contributed to it a whole lot. But unlike the bird site, it’s much easier to leave since I didn’t have specific friends there I was following, just groups. And with many of those groups now going dark, there isn’t any value in remaining around any more.
Later today - or maybe tomorrow, I’ll set up a new account on #Kbin and/or #Lemmy and see if I can try to recreate that experience.
Before I delete my account on the snoo site there’s a couple things I’d like to archive - specifically my saved posts, and ideally the list of subreddits I’m subscribed to as well. Does anyone know of an easy way to do this? I posted earlier today about my bad experience with some of the tools I found on Google: https://oldbytes.space/@smallsco/110520484142248866 - hoping someone knows a better way.
So, I've been thinking about the future of Vibes Based Hockey, and I have come to the decision that next season, the coverage is going to look different. The actual newsletter is going to focus more on stories of general interest in hockey around the world. Going to keep doing weekly women's hockey roundups and “Hockey Isn't For Everyone” articles, but the other articles will focus more on interesting stories that others aren't talking about, from all across the globe. 1/3
I'm not giving up on Whitecaps, #CBJ, & #LGRW specific coverage. I'm keeping the VibeCaps Podcast, & will either do a podcast or videos on them both. Not sure how that will exactly look like right now. The podcast or videos will be a part of the newsletter, but not articles themselves. I want articles to be more general because right now, my articles are a complete mess of topics & I want to have more of a focus in articles. Podcasts & videos will be more specific. 2/3
@HistoPol@FediFollows I think I have done that already. They don't reply & then they suspend your account without warning & without any further communication. I will just put out the basic non-sex stuff as I do on LinkedIn & Facebook. The world is becoming more & more sanitised. What I need is a male only server... but then I am a woman so that wouldn't work either!
@LearnAboutSexuality
I am very sorry to hear that they are not responding, though I don't know whether this is due to too many requests etc. or b/c your question is so "exotic". Also, this is vacation time for some and almost everyone on #Mastodon works pro-bono.
I have no contact with them either. The only thing I can think of is to wait like another week and then re-send the request.
@atomicpoet I’ve literarily tried every new platform since Twitter & Pownce.. most recently #Post, #Nostr, #Bluesky, #Substack Notes and even #T2. While BlueSky seems to be the most intuitive coming from Twitter (along with Substack and Post) none of these platforms can compete with #Mastodon when it comes to interaction and overall culture.
This confirms what I've been thinking #Musk is going to do with #twitter. He's turning it into a big mall: first he partnered with eToro to expand the #financial services they offer, now he's trying to set up a virtual #news stand, next it will be #shop-fronts for every #brand that wants to sell things on Twitter.
The idea here is that he'll get rent for the shop-fronts, while also getting a cut off all the transactions...
If @mmasnick is correct, regular people will increasingly desert Substack. Then advertisers (I assume it has them) will desert it. You will be left alone with a few thousand fascists, and your articles will have #fascist advertising on them because that is all that is left.
At some point you too will have to move to somewhere else. So better do it now rather than later.
Updating my #Substack → Calibre #ebook recipe. I’ve added quite a number of subscriptions lately!
This little function allows me to turn Substacks into ebooks, which I just transfer to my ebook reader to read slowly over coffee at the cafe on a Sunday. This is a ritual I look forward to each week.
I am about to create a special recipe for Fiction Substacks :)
As a writer, writing and publishing online using #Indieweb principles could save your life's work. And maybe even your career. This ish ow I'm #blogging differently and avoiding the perils of #enshitiffication.
