unattributed,

This confirms what I've been thinking is going to do with . He's turning it into a big mall: first he partnered with eToro to expand the services they offer, now he's trying to set up a virtual stand, next it will be -fronts for every that wants to sell things on Twitter.

The idea here is that he'll get rent for the shop-fronts, while also getting a cut off all the transactions...

realcaseyrollins,

@unattributed #Twitter isn't #Substack, and it's probably a mistake for them to try to be

unattributed,

@realcaseyrollins is not just a substack style system he's going for. He literally wants it to be a mall / shopping center. IE - you look at the feed for a brand, and they will have ads posted for things to buy. You'll click a "buy" button and the brand will take the order and ship it to you.

Want to read a WSJ article? But it. Need some toilet paper? Go to the Charmin feed and buy it.

This will be done by transitioning accounts into a #PayPal like system that links your bank accounts, credit card, crypto wallets, etc to your profile so transactions happen seamlessly.

And he gets to charge for the advertising (aka renting the feed space) and gets a percentage of the purchases.

From a business perspective is a smart plan. From a social network perspective is an idiotic plan.

realcaseyrollins,

@unattributed That actually sounds like a good idea considering how much people use social media; but, we've never seen this done successfully because (both #FaceBook and #Instagram have failed at this).

But, I was mostly referring to #Twitter trying to become a home for articles. I doubt it will find a way to integrate them well; it's still a microblogging platform at heart, after all.

The idea of charging per article is pretty cool though.

unattributed,

@realcaseyrollins they have the extended posts as part of Blue already.... I have serious doubts about how he going to make it work. He's already pissed of the substack folks with blocking their current site. And he pissed off a lot of the traditional Media writers and organizations.

Not to mention that he's put up a wall to anyone that might be interested in automating this work with the new API fees.

It's like he has an interesting idea but (a) he's bumbling and fumbling his way through implementing it, and (b) he doesn't have a clue about keeping the parts of the site that made it cool and interesting in the first place.
