Heads up other #mastodon instance admins, the any dot pink #spam#bots have started up again. We've just closed regos here until they pull their heads back in.
Just a reminder to always beware of not only spam calls, but also spam text messages. Here is one I got today. If you ever get one like this, never click on the link. I actually never open the message screen. I always delete it as an unread message. If you ever wonder if could actually be about a package you are suppose to receive, then go to the site you purchased it from, and check the shipping status. This is another reason it might be good to use an app like Parcel, so you can track any shipments that you will be receiving. Here is the message I got today, +44 7399 755562, Unread, The USPS package arrived at the warehouse but could not be delivered due to incomplete address information. Please confirm your address in the link. https://usps-pr.helpsc.top (Please reply Y, then , 9:12 AM. #Spam#Text#Beware#USPS
#AI#GenerativeAI#OpenAI#Spam#Moderation: "When OpenAI CEO Sam Altman announced GPTs, custom chatbots powered by OpenAI’s generative AI models, onstage at the company’s first-ever developer conference in November, he described them as a way to “accomplish all sorts of tasks” — from programming to learning about esoteric scientific subjects to getting workout pointers.
“Because [GPTs] combine instructions, expanded knowledge and actions, they can be more helpful to you,” Altman said. “You can build a GPT … for almost anything.”
He wasn’t kidding about the anything part.
TechCrunch found that the GPT Store, OpenAI’s official marketplace for GPTs, is flooded with bizarre, potentially copyright-infringing GPTs that imply a light touch where it concerns OpenAI’s moderation efforts. A cursory search pulls up GPTs that purport to generate art in the style of Disney and Marvel properties, but serve as little more than funnels to third-party paid services, and advertise themselves as being able to bypass AI content detection tools such as Turnitin and Copyleaks." https://techcrunch.com/2024/03/20/openais-chatbot-store-is-filling-up-with-spam/
#SocialMedia#Facebook#Algorithms#RecommendationEngines#AI#Spam: "Facebook’s recommendation algorithms are promoting bizarre, AI-generated images being posted by spammers and scammers to an audience of people who mindlessly interact with them and perhaps don’t understand that they are not real, a new analysis by Stanford and Georgetown University researchers has found. The researchers’ analysis aligns with what I have seen and experienced over the course of months of researching and reporting on these pages, many of which have found a novel way to link to off-platform, AI-generated “news” sites that are littered with Google ads or which are selling low-quality products.
Last week the world was introduced to Shrimp Jesus, a series of AI-generated images in which Jesus is melded with a crustacean, and which have repeatedly gone viral on Facebook. The images are emblematic of a specific type of AI image being used by spammers and scammers, which I first wrote about in December but have repeatedly made the masses go “WTF” and “WHY?” when shared away from an audience of Facebook users who are seemingly unable to detect them as AI, or don’t care that they are AI. “WHAT IS HAPPENING ON FACEBOOK,” a viral tweet about Shrimp Jesus read." https://www.404media.co/facebooks-algorithm-is-boosting-ai-spam-that-links-to-ai-generated-ad-laden-click-farms/
Spent some time in court today arguing that the #ICO is wrong... and the judge agreed!
Although it wasn't a complete success, it wasn't an unmitigated disaster and I'm actually quite pleased that a court agreed that the ICO's interpretation of the UK #GDPR is bonkers.
No więc dostałem jakiś #spam z ofertą pracy od rekruterów firmy #Samsung, na projekt, na który definitywnie nie mam umiejętności. A potem jeszcze dwa identyczne maile.
A question to fellow website owners: are you noticing, like me, an influx of #spam comments from B*nance URLs/email addresses?
One of my most popular websites went from being under attack from brute force attempts (100+ a day) to now receiving lots of spammy comments from addresses associated to crypto. I wonder if you experienced the same thing?
After this week's Spring Break, we return in my #SysAdmin class to dive into #SMTP.
We start with an overview of the ecosystem consisting of MUAs, MTAs, MDAs, Access Agents, and tcpdump a simple manual SMTP session over telnet. We then talk about STARTTLS, MTA-STS and #DANE, before diving into #spam defenses, including #SPF, #DKIM, and #DMARC, all with practical examples, tracking lookups and traffic on the sender and receiver.
