Trying to use Twitter/X to do something simple like see how bad the roads and sidewalks are in #Philly is now entirely impossible. Every common term is coopted by a crypto spammer, search is useless.
4 months ago today I arrived in San Francisco. I’ve had a great time, made lots of new friends, but I’m on to my next thing. Tomorrow morning I’m leaving SF to begin a 10 day roadtrip to Philly. On Jan 22 I’ll start a new job working for the Biden For President campaign. I’m excited to work somewhere that’ll be fulfilling, and allow me to take pride in what I’m doing (unlike the job I had for 4 months in SF).
Subscribed to the Philadelphia OEM text line and it was super active during the storm last night. I couldn’t figure out how they were so ahead of things and also so specific. Coverage this morning told me more.
Apparently the USGS was sending in flood numbers from all four counties. So the Philly OEM ostensibly knew that the influx of water was imminent which explains why they issued moderate flood warnings in advance. And they were localized!
Yo, Philly. A local disability group is putting together a live list of which restaurants still have outdoor dining, and if so, the details therein. Please feel free to contribute for your neck of the city.
A rare trip into #Philly yesterday, and I was thrilled to spot two new #HouseOfHades#ToynbeeTiles right near City Hall. These symbols or messages embedded in asphalt streets fascinate me as an art form.
Just learned about #DecRecs! To make up for yesterday, Day 1 of Dec Recs I'll recommend this Chinese short animated series "All Saints Street" with four seasons. An angel, vampire, mummy, zombie, and werewolf live together. What could go wrong? Really enjoy it for the combination of great art, slice of life, and the supernatural. There's also a comic. It's produced similar to "Hey your cat ears are showing" but more memes and skulls than wholesome uwu. https://anilist.co/anime/114555#anime
For Day 4 of #DecRecs I'm going to cheat a little by recommending 3 short audio docs (podcast format) folx interested in learning more about an underrated topic.
🔥"Chester is Rising" (5 eps): the 30+ year grassroots Environmental Justice movement in the city home to the USA's largest incinerator among other major polluters. https://rss.com/podcasts/chesterisrising/
✊"March On: The Fight for Pride" (5 eps): the complicated history behind Philadelphia's pride march, including internalized racism and transphobia, and the work to heal and create something new https://whyy.org/programs/march-on/
🪲"Headlong: Surviving Y2K" (6 eps): despite the 2000's millennium bug being an afterthought for many, we explore the stories of those who were impacted by it personally, even years later https://topicstudios.com/podcasts/headlong-surviving-y2k/ #podcasts#nonfiction#storytelling#environmentalJustice#lgbt#philadelphia#philly#y2k
Ok #Philly, I need a list of restaurants that still have #OutdoorSeating this winter. (Real outdoor seating, not sheds or tents that are fully enclosed.) Is there any way to search for this, or generate a list?
In this case I also need:
open for lunch (wow all my favorite restaurants are dinner only)
vegetarian food
that accommodates my peanut and soy allergies
not spicy
Italian cuisine with homemade pasta is my favorite, but I also like Zahav and Vedge, for instance
Migration and re #introduction toot!
