PLATINUM BLONDE
Standing In The Dark
1984 Canada pressing
I had never heard of them until Id moved to #canada in ‘07, where copies of their records are abundant and in every used shop.
This is a fantastic power pop album, start to finish. Great hooky songs.
However, this is where it kinda ends for them.
After this, the band added a keyboard player, and everything got very… #80s . And not in a good way.
But there’s no denying how good THIS one is. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80smusic#newwave
"Roam" is a song by American #newWave band #theB52s released as the fourth single from their fifth studio album, #CosmicThing (1989). The vocals are sung by #KatePierson and #CindyWilson, making it the only vocal track on the album without any vocal involvement from #FredSchneider. It is also the only track from the album in which the B-52's worked with a co-writer, Robert Waldrop, who penned the lyrics. Released as a single in 1989. https://youtu.be/MypxgoRvEa4
On a big Joy Division vibe right now. Shadowplay is an incredible piece of music. Get it up loud and realise just how hard Hooky’s bass goes, not to mention Stephen’s drums.

DEV-O Live is a live EP (and, later, live album) by American new wave band Devo, recorded 1980 at the Fox Warfield Theatre in San Francisco and released on this day in 1981
This movie (and the year it was released) is now forty years old. That's older than than the gap between when the book was written and the year it was based upon! Are we more of a #Dystopia society now than what Orwell envisioned? I don't know about that, but our current music sure isn't as cold and #SynthPop heavy as heard here. #ElectronicMusic#NewWave
Released in 1979 on Joy Division's groundbreaking debut album Unknown Pleasures, "She's Lost Control" is a stark and powerful exploration of epilepsy and loss of self-determination. Its driving rhythm, Ian Curtis's haunting vocals, and the song's evocative lyrics make it a post-punk masterpiece.
@waltman And in #food-themed #music trivia, a young version of my band The Phoenix Trap made a grungy appearance on the 1998 compilation CD “#Scrapple Rocks,” alongside #Philly hitmaker #RobertHazard (songwriter for #CyndiLauper’s “Girls Just Wanna Have Fun” and his own #NewWave hit “Escalator of Life”)
This @SPINMag post reminded me of the ‘Purple Rain’ era #LiveMusic album that finally saw an official release a couple of years ago. One of the best shows in a lifetime of great performances.
Happy Birthday to Cynthia Leigh Wilson, singer, songwriter and founding members of new wave rock band the B-52's, born on this day in 1957, Athens, Georgia
Debuting in their 1977 album "Talking Heads: 77," "Psycho Killer" is an iconic track that defined Talking Heads' unique sound. With its enigmatic lyrics and unforgettable bassline, it's a standout in post-punk history, embodying the band's innovative edge.

For those that only think of the gothic disco vibes of their commercial peak, here is the complete session recorded by The #HumanLeague on 8 August 1978 for the #JohnPeel show on BBC Radio 1. It's truly #postpunk gloom (the classic track "Being Boiled" is a favorite), and yet the initial DNA of the group is there, including one cheeky as hell cover of "You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling ":
