Happy birthday to Catherine Elizabeth Pierson aka Kate Pierson, American singer, lyricist and one of the singers and founding members of B-52, born on this day in 1948.
Released in 1979, this synth-driven track was Tubeway Army's breakthrough hit. It topped the UK charts and appeared on their iconic album 'Replicas'. Its haunting melody and dystopian lyrics helped pioneer the new wave sound.

In honor of today's celestial event, here's a very clean transfer of Klaus Nomi performing "Total Eclipse" live.
(From Urgh: A Music War, which, if you haven't seen, seek it out, especially if you're a fan of post-punk and new wave. It's an amazing time capsule of one of the most dynamic moments in pop music history.)
Released in 1985 as part of the "Hounds of Love" album, "Under Ice" is a haunting and atmospheric song. Bush's ethereal vocals tell a chilling tale of a person trapped beneath a frozen river. The song's experimental soundscapes and evocative lyrics make it a standout of her unique artistry.
In memory of Ian Robins Dury, English singer-songwriter and actor who rose to fame during the late 1970s, during the punk and new wave era of rock music. Ian Dury died of metastatic colorectal cancer on this day in 2000, aged 57.

1984 Canada pressing
I had never heard of them until Id moved to #canada in ‘07, where copies of their records are abundant and in every used shop.
This is a fantastic power pop album, start to finish. Great hooky songs.
However, this is where it kinda ends for them.
After this, the band added a keyboard player, and everything got very… #80s . And not in a good way.
But there’s no denying how good THIS one is. #vinyl#vinylrecords#80smusic#newwave
"Roam" is a song by American #newWave band #theB52s released as the fourth single from their fifth studio album, #CosmicThing (1989). The vocals are sung by #KatePierson and #CindyWilson, making it the only vocal track on the album without any vocal involvement from #FredSchneider. It is also the only track from the album in which the B-52's worked with a co-writer, Robert Waldrop, who penned the lyrics. Released as a single in 1989. https://youtu.be/MypxgoRvEa4
