Happy birthday, my thirty year old clicky-clacky keyboard! #retrocomputing #ibm #mechanicalkeyboard #clickyclacky

(I keep it mostly for sentimental reasons, sadly I don't actively use it)

An M Type mechanical keyboard made for IBM by Lexmark in 1994.

Just finished up this one. No-stabilizers, handwired custom 98% layout. 3D printed case and feet, plate laser cut from 3.2mm Masonite, blank XDA laser dye-subbed in a Josefin Sans Medium font. Not exactly professional fit and finish, but it types nice with Box Jades, and ZERO STAB RATTLE! ZERO!!!

Some fans are celebrating the 40th day of year with and photos of their keyboards that are 40% or less the size of a full size keeb.

Here’s my Unicorne by Boardsource and a custom cable by MechCables. Each half of the keyboard includes a joystick.

The keyboard layout is described here: https://mark.stosberg.com/markstos-corne-3x5-1-keyboard-layout/

Happy to all you users!

We've got:

  1. Blank Slate wireless ortho, with KAT Mizu keycaps, lubed Akko CS Lavender switches, in the Drop high profile Planck case

  2. Technikable low profile wireless ortho, with choc whites switches and MBK legend keycaps in the Ultem color polycarbonate Technik case

  3. Le Capybara split column stagger, with 45g KLC domes, no silencer rings, and MT3 Operator keycaps, in a 3dp Sporkus case.

All naturally running @zmk

12x4 low profile ortholinear keyboard with HHKB style blockers on the bottom row. Grey and white keycaps with a red 2u accent thumb. Around the keyboard on the desk are various electronic components and tools, e.g. a multimeter.
34 key unibody split keyboard with white keycaps with grey and purple accent keys, in a galaxy black case, resting on a small light brown knitted mat.

Happy !

My favourite ≤ 40% keyboards:

  1. custom (world's smallest 😉) in fluorescent acrylic with (bought from Drop)

  2. (bought from ) with SA

  3. () with GMK — IMHO the most usable 40%

  4. (sub-30% bought from WorldspawnsKeebs on Etsy) with GMK Pulse (from Drop)

Thanks to @petejohanson for the idea!

A Zlant keyboard (designed by Ziptyze and sold by 1UpKeyboards) with SA Vilebloom as keycap set. The keyboard has a uniform stagger, i.e. every row of keys has an offset of ¼ key width to the next row, hence filling the gap between ortholinear and classic staggered keyboard layouts. It's a keyboard just consisting of three layers of white PCB material, but it has no frame so you nearly don't see anything of it in this top-down shot. The keycaps show a (stepped) gradient slanted in the opposite direction as the keyboard's rows are slanted. Left side is navy blue on pale yellow, then there are two columns white on salmon pink, then one row white on old rose, and the right side including the 2u space bar is all white on navy blue.
A Minivan keyboard from TheVanKeyboards (TVK) with aluminum frame and the GMK Paperwork (design IIRC also from TVK) keycap set. Most of the keycaps are medium grey on light grey with the cursor keys having a slightly darker light grey as base color. Tab, Shift, Enter Backspace, one the two short spacebars and the menu key have inverse colors (light grey on medium grey). The for bottom left keycaps have the base colors yellow, cyan, purple and green with legends in a darker tone of the same color. These colors are reminiscent of neon markers on recycling paper with a checked pattern. Black background.
An Alpha keyboard, designed by PyrooL and sold by WorldspawnKeebs. As "Alpha" is a very ambiguous name, many call it Alpha28 as it only has 28 keys: 26 "alpha" keys (hence probably the original name), a 2u spacebar and a key left of the L key which can be used as layer switch key or Enter key, … The keyboard has a half-ortholinear and half-staggered layout consisting of just three rows of keys. The two upper key rows have each 10 1u keys and are ortholinear to each other and contain the letters QWERTYUIOP, ASDFGHJKL and a key labeled "Data". The bottom row has 7 1u keys (ZXCV and BNM) and a 2u space bar between V and B. It's a keyboard just consisting of one layer of white PCB material and two layers of transparent acrylic, so you nearly see anything of the "case" in this top-down shot. The keycap set is GMK Pulse Mitolet, i.e. cyan on purple. It's sitting on a sun-lit sandstone window sill.

Implemented a system to support the additional characters from Latin-1 Supplement and Latin Extended A like on a smart phone (select variant, last choice remembered). All the keys are sent as Unicode so there is no need to change the input language 😁

Hello,

Has anyone successfully implemented Nintendo Switch's :nintendo_switch_logo: JoyCon analog sticks to QMK firmware for mechanical keyboards? Any examples for wiring and firmware would be appreciated.

I'll use along with Splinky (Open source hardware, powered by #RP2040 , but 1:1 pin compatible with classic Atmega32u4 Sparkfun Pro Micros)

Was thinking of building one, but confused between corneV2 and Lily58 pro. How has your experience been with those boards?

I accumulated a lot of old, classic keyboards over the years, but always stuck to my two favorites (a ShiTec and an IBM Model M SSK).

I'm now trying out a different keyboard each week 🥳

This week's keyboard: NEC APC-H412 ⌨️

It's huge, has a gigantic spacebar, and NEC blue oval switches.

And the XL-3030RGBC-WS2812B work flawlessly! All 5 boards turned on without any LED issues. So I'm gonna change the other side as well. This is the final version for the Split72 😍 As you can see, these LEDs are slightly smaller, but I love them!

Looking for #keyboard / #mechanicalkeyboard recommendations. I want a low profile TKL for the office - brown tactile or scissor, not picky beyond low noise. My Keychron K1 (pictured) is feeling a bit too tall for comfort this year. I love my G915 TKL at home but they're very expensive, so buying another is a last resort. Currently considering a 3Dconnexion Keyboard Pro, I love their mice and the horizontal home-end layout. I don't have time right now to design my own. Boosts appreciated!

Finally finished the soldering and everything seems to work! Just couldn't test the stereo piezo buzzers yet, will need to write the QMK firmware first... In the meantime, here are the source and production files:

Drop has a new dark Solarized (my open source colorscheme) keycap set. It looks great & is discounted right now. (No affiliation with this set, they produced it on their own. Not a sponsored post, this is just me proud that my colorscheme continues to be loved by many). https://drop.com/buy/drop-dcx-solarized-dark-keycap-set
