But there's still SO much life left in this hardware... https://www.patreon.com/posts/oneplus-8-pros-104427009
A phone from 2020, it's not just "not obsolete", it's still an actively competitive premium device today.
Wireless charging sucks!
(Sucks more power that is.)
My buddy Ricky and I did a one-off experiment comparing wireless charging to FAST cabled charging. You can watch part one here https://somegadgetguy.com/b/442
I was pleasantly surprised that Qi charging had improved and kept case temperatures better in check, but we still saw elevated temperatures for roughly two hours on a full charge.
Now, iFixit delivers even more data on wireless charging, and it's not great. You're trading a lot of waste and heat for some mediocre "convenience"...
A quick check in on the Xiaomi 14, and while this is an awesome camera, it turns out I TOO have issues with condensation and the lens fogging up. Has YOUR Xiaomi suffered similar issues? Has Xiaomi fixed or exchanged your phone?
I'm playing with a new TicWatch! Aaannnd it's kinda the same as the last TicWatch? https://somegadgetguy.com/b/44o
The Enduro isn't a new generation of watch, but it is a nice little hardware refresh over the TicWatch Pro 5. Let's take a look!
Yup. Digging that Bay Blue on the Pixel 8A.
Looks like we have a decent mid-ranger for North America. A LOT of the perks of owning the nicer Pixel 8, but at a lower price and the compromises don't seem extreme.
Should be a great daily communicator device.
#AI#GenerativeAI#AIHype#Gadgets: "Despite my pessimism about the droves of AI marketing hype, if not AI washing, likely to barrage the next couple of years of tech announcements, I have hope that consumer interest and common sense will yield skepticism that stops some of the worst so-called AI gadgets from getting popular or misleading people."
I still get a LOT of comments, from people who don't really want to learn about current ARM offerings, but like to speculate and complain about what ARM PCs can't do. https://somegadgetguy.com/b/44Y
Before we start getting X Elite hardware, here's what older ARM PCs can do with SIGNIFICANTLY less powerful chips! It's a LOT more than you think...
Tech brands like Logitech, Nothing, and Microsoft are adding AI-related features to their gadgets, but are these features truly necessary? The rush to integrate AI raises questions about the actual benefits for users.

Hi, All. I have a blog that I've moved to the Ghost platform, and would love to see it grow there. I mainly post a picture a day, either one I took on the day, or a picture from my archives that I decide to post. I also talk about fountain pens, inks, and sometimes stationery, and tech and gadgets. If any of this interests you, please check out CJ's Wunderkammer (German term for "cabinet of wonders"):
Infinix makes some great bang-for-buck smartphones, and the Note 40 Pro+ has a fresh new look!
Have we seen this design before though?
Let’s check it out!
Petivity Smart Litterbox Monitor System: Uses Existing Pet Litter Box
It takes about a week or so for it to learn your cats’ habits accurately. During that time, the app alerts you when an event is detected and, based on the weight recorded, you select which cat it was (or if it was a non-cat event, like you scooping) ...continues
