I'm thinking about Mastodon in a wide view, in the world of social media, this feels a little outsider, while at the same time it also feels like it might be the future. So, let's talk about it!
What do you get out of Mastodon?
Why are you here?
How has it compared with your other social media experiences?
What do you see for the future of Mastodon?
What do you want to see?
And basically anything else about it you want to say about Mastodon.
LET'S TALK!
@RickiTarr
I came here for #InfoSec insider news.
I found much more.
I'm #transgender and haven't had a good online forum to talk to other transgender folks for years. I've found that here.
Also, this place helped me realize I'm #ActuallyAutistic and make sense of my entire life.
I can share my #writing and find out about new anthologies and books. #Mastodon and the #Fediverse are what I wish Nextdoor was like.
I will be starting the installation of Mastodon v4.2.0 on Masto.host.
This is a large update and I will be doing a slow rollout, meaning that I will release it gradually to batches of servers and monitor how it evolves before continuing.
"Understanding online history can be particularly difficult because many sites have long-since disappeared. However, archiving efforts like those of the Internet Archive and the National Library of Australia make it possible to look back and see how much things have changed, what concerns are familiar, and remember the everyday people who helped transform the internet from a niche academic network to a mass medium." - Kieran Hegarty in The Conversation: https://theconversation.com/30-years-of-the-web-down-under-how-australians-made-the-early-internet-their-own-212542
@internetarchive I do wonder if any of what we’re doing here on #Mastodon gets hovered up and archived somewhere. As in, will some future being ever be looking back and catching a snippets of convo
Oh - don't forget to review your profile settings. As I've upgraded metalhead.club to the latest Mastodon release 4.2, the search bar has gotten MUCH more powerful.
But: To enable its potential, you need to make your posts searchable (if you like).
Pls boost to make people aware. There's no message / notification / warning about this feature. You should review your settings :)
"Preferences" => "Public profile" => "Privacy and reach", then check "Include public posts in search results"
I just enabled my public posts to be searched after @mastohost updated my #Mastodon instance to 4.2! 🕺🏾 🎉
I would rather people search for my posts within the #Fediverse than from #Google (who is already indexing all public posts from everywhere). #Misskey has had this feature for a while now & it is useful.
This will also make it easier for people to transition from #Threads to other #ActivityPub platforms, as discoverability via search is helpful.
Is your #Mastodon instance running version 4.2? Yes? Here's a helpful visual for those trying to figure out how to opt into making your public posts searchable.
We've just enabled Full Text search on buddyverse.xyz !
Here's the friendly request: If you ever notice our server working hard to meet your requests and you appreciate the effort, consider dropping a few bucks on my Buy Me a Coffee page. Your support goes a long way in keeping things running smoothly. ☕💙
Please #mastodon ios devs, find a way to move the alt text tag. It’s meant to help interpret images, not to obfuscate them and encourage us not to use it
