On May 22, 1849, Congressman Abraham Lincoln received a patent for his method of lifting boats over shoals.
The invention "Buoying Vessels Over Shoals" used a set of inflatable fabric bladders along the sides of a boat to lift the boat, to help it pass over bars and shallow waters, and to help free it when stuck.
There is no evidence that the invention was ever put to practical use.
#Lincoln remains the only U.S. president to have a patent in his name.

There is evidence of Russian interference in US elections going back before the Civil War.
I'll quote #Lincoln in a letter to Joshua Speed:
"When the Know-Nothings get control, it will read "all men are created equal, except negroes, and foreigners, and catholics." When it comes to this I should prefer emigrating to some country where they make no pretence of loving liberty-to #Russia, for instance, where despotism can be taken pure, and without the base alloy of hypocracy."

When the Enterprise drops by Planet “Great Moments with Mr. #Lincoln”, good and evil are put into a poorly executed experiment. Did Duane the Rock Monster learn anything today? Why is #PresidentLincoln army crawling in his nice suit? Were Lincoln’s own words used in this episode?

Ex-Tropical Cyclone #Lincoln may become a cyclone again 🌀
Lincoln’s remnants have tracked over northern Australia for several days and are now back out over warm waters. Lincoln will likely make landfall along the Gascoyne coast on Saturday as a category 1 cyclone (Aus scale).
“When ballots have fairly and constitutionally decided, there can be no successful appeal back to bullets; that there can be no successful appeal except to ballots themselves, at succeeding elections. Such will be a great lesson of peace; teaching men that what they cannot take by an election neither can they take by a war; teaching all the folly of being the beginners of a war.” — Lincoln’s July 4, 1861 address to Congress https://bit.ly/48lyLX2#lincoln#insurrection#elections

Today in Labor History February 1, 1865: President Lincoln signed the 13th Amendment to the Constitution, abolishing slavery. However, the 13th Amendment does not abolish all forms of slavery. The state is still permitted to force prisoners to work for free, or for wages far below the minimum wage. They are even allowed to do this and sell the products made by prisoners for a profit. And, so long as capitalism exists, wage slavery will still persist.
President Abraham #Lincoln in letters to Joshua Speed, had prophetic vision on the politics of the future #UnitedStates.
