An organized swath of severe thunderstorm wind (potential derecho) is expected mainly across parts of Kansas this afternoon and evening, possibly extending into northern Oklahoma. Gusts of 75-100 mph are possible, along with large hail and a few tornadoes.
#HurricaneSeason2024 is underway in the eastern Pacific. Two disturbances south of Mexico are being monitored by the NHC, and a tropical depression could form this weekend or early next week.
Thunderstorms capable of large hail and damaging winds are expected to increase across parts of central and southeastern Texas this afternoon into tonight. A couple of tornadoes are also possible, and an organized cluster of storms might eventually evolve, accompanied by a more substantive risk for damaging wind gusts.

i dont see tornadoes as a big threat to me in Chicago. but, i also dont want to be considering 'where is the safest place for me?' while a tornado is actively bearing down.
