As you may know if you have any students in your class who identify as Christian, they may ask to be excused from school to observe the #Christian#holiday of “Christmas,” more popularly referred to as Yom Christmas.

I was out shopping with my Christian friend Christina and, not gonna lie, it was kind of a downer.
At #Aldi they had the cutest little boxes of cookies that were also a music box and Christina couldn’t stop sighing that she couldn’t buy one because the music was somehow no good.
The GNU folks: Hehehe, we called it GIMP. And the main branch is called master. Because GIMP, get it?! We couldn’t possibly change it because fart noises
Also GNU folks: Why does everyone think we’re three misogynistic 12-year-old boys in a neckbeard suit?
There are so many low hanging fruits for you folks to embrace inclusivity and make a dedicated effort to clean up your act but you seem too bloody busy pissing all over the tree to mark your territory.
NWHL - National Women's Hockey League changed its name to Premiere Hockey Federation to be more inclusive of enbys and trans folks. They made a big deal about inclusivity and pride stuff, which I thought was wonderful.
Today I learned that over the summer some cis dude bought the thing and changed the name to "Professional Women's Hockey League" and I'm guessing its buh-bye to all that then.
Basically, the idea is that I go through the #AOC2023 tasks with a #screenReader, make sure the content is #accessible for as many viewers as I can. That means I narrate what I'm doing, the screen reader is audible when required, and the screen reader output is also visible on the screen.
Subtitles and transcriptions may not be up yet by the time this goes live, as it takes a minute for the autocaptioning to catch up. If it turns out these are really, really bad, which is possible, I will transcribe the videos myself using Whisper and make sure they get added to the videos.
My aim with these videos is to show off the accessibility issues that exist, point out easy fixes to them, give people who are curious about this field an introduction they can actually consume in a way that works for them, as well as just create awareness that we're here, we're not leaving, and we'd like to be part of the conversation #inclusivity is pursued.
Any feedback is, of course, more than welcome, and I wil incorporate it in videos going forward. #blind#InfoSec#cyberSecurity#hacking#contentCreator
People yearn for acceptance, to be acknowledged for who they are. No one enjoys being ostracized, sidelined, or ignored.
Algorithms on certain social platforms can sometimes foster these feelings, leading to sadness or, worse, anger.
Let's strive for inclusivity in our online spaces.
This is a multilingual eye-test chart circa 1907. It was designed by optometrist George Mayerle. He said it was “the result of many years of theoretical study and practical experience.”
While it’s absolutely gorgeous, the chart was designed for usability, accessibility, and inclusivity.

On my end, I'll try my best to highlight the importance of non-code contributions and sharing strategies to engage potential contributors who may not be primarily developers.
43% of First Australians over seven suffer hearing loss, let #TheVoice Referendum content hasn’t yet being provided in ways that are accessible to this significant cohort!!
📺 Tune into ABC Catalyst tonight (8:30pm) to check out our team and story on converting data from
Space into sounds (sonification) in Astronomy.
That’s my boss (the awesome Dr George Hobbs) riding on our beautiful Murriyang (Parkes radio telescope).
A while back I wrote a piece for #SpaceAustralia on the importance of sonification, in particular, to make Astronomy more accessible and inclusive to extended audiences. It's an excellent topic of science but requires a lot of ableism (vision) to mostly participate in.
But sonification can help change this - as human audio capability is amazing!
