Was curious if there were any FOSS 3D RTS games with a fantasy style to them, thinking of some of my old favs like Age of Mythology & Rise of Legends.

Pleased to find that there is one, & it mixes magic & tech factions much like Rise of Legends did back in the day!

It's a game called MegaGlest, well worth checking out! A little rough in some respects, but still altogether impressive!

I really dig some of the little touches to MegaGlest, such as the mages using their abilities to gather resources instead of pickaxes. The brief pause as gatherers switch from gathering to hauling, pulling the resources together to haul & deposit.

The visible progress bars as buildings/units are researching/producing upgrades or units. The way the main building lights up as night falls.

The organizers of @pycon have given community organizers a massive gift 🎁

Let's not squander it!

A sold out #PyConUS 2024 proved that even large events can prioritize safety and inclusion for caregivers and immunocompromised people by way of requiring masks, and gathering venue data to calibrate their policy from year-to-year. Smaller events have proven it's possible at that scale, too.

Now is the time for at least one other large event to step up.

Who will it be? 👀

Taka myśl:
Kupuję samochód marki A.

Folks who might be looking to move from Windows to Linux: another option, if it’s financially feasible for you and you don’t want to mess with installing Linux, is to sell your Windows machine and buy a Linux one.

Yep, they exist.

Folks like @starlabs in the UK, @tuxedocomputers in the EU, and @system76 in the US sell Linux machines that just work out of the box.

My 2TB HDD died. I didn't lose anything too precious but I did lose some stuff I'm annoyed about.

I'm buying myself another HDD (not an SSD) and Ive considered RAID (5 or 10?) but I doubt I'll go with that as I'll need to buy several HDD's

However I'm looking at backup options. I've looked at Macrium but don't know what/where to back up to.

Another HDD? DVD? Blu-Ray? External SSD? Cloud? Hand inscribed binary in Tungsten sheets? XD

Albo przypominanie o alt text?

Na ile ważny jest wygląd aplikacji? A to, czy jest FOSS?

Proszę o podbicia dla większego zasięgu.

Time, use and practice are key to switching OSes, platforms and apps: you get comfortable with what you use. A good start to moving away from Microsoft Windows might be to install Libre Office on Windows, and start learning to use that for your daily word processing, presentations and spreadsheets. Take some steps with open source software before you even have to tackle a new operating system.

If you ever wonder why people like open source :

  • Think of a feature you'd like to see in your favorite closed source application (let's say Discord, as I did recently)
  • Look into if you can submit feedback or suggestions to whichever company makes said software. You'll only have this option if you're lucky, frankly.
  • Push a feature into the void and pray to the gods that someone both sees it and understands the value.

Consider that, with , you can just test it out yourself.

Almost a year exclusively using GrapheneOS for mobile and (many years before that) GNU/Linux for all my computing.

How quickly one gets spoiled. Found myself obliged over the past few days to help relatives use Windows and iOS. It was deeply shocking.

Windows on newish hardware is so slow that I didn't think it was responding. To say nothing of the privacy and usability nightmare.

And the Apple ratchet has tightened down a few more clicks in a year. A very high quality third party app that I bought years ago now appears in a new version "with in-app purchases," and the splash screen requires me to sign in via Google or Facebook. Perfectly ghastly.

Just added a new hotel to the website to help anyone looking for accomodation. The Trecastell Hotel is a few miles from Cemaes, but is only a 5 minute or so drive away. Busses are available as well as a possible ride sharing option if enough people are interested. Their Sunday carvery is quite tasty as well! (I went a couple of weeks ago)

Tickets are still available for the event, book your #Drupal weekend on #Anglesey today!

I've finally managed to get through the whole playlist (72 songs, pant pant...). I was quite impressed with the quality, since I was expecting something more amateur-ish on average (like my crummy contribution).

Eventually, I took some notes and came up with a list of 11 tracks in particular that I liked more than the others, and so candidates for my three votes this week (I won't vote for myself).

So, without further ado... 🧵
