This comes across as xenophobic and anti-Chinese baiting from the #Biden administration. The truth of the matter is that modern cars are privacy nightmares, no matter the manufacturer. While it may be true that “vehicles on American roads…could be immediately disabled by somebody in Beijing”, they could also be disabled by someone in Detroit, Austin, or Seoul.
The root of the problem is the fact that cars are allowed to be sold to the consumer with these egregious invasions of privacy. Want to fix the China problem? Fix consumer rights laws so that no one can remote-control your cars.

It was only May 23 that this deal was announced and less than a year later ford users have access to teslas supercharger network
The NACS standard is going to rapidly take over in CONUSA and this is a great thing for consumers, and wont be a problem for tesla owners, I'll follow up with why
@melissabeartrix It's important to remember that fossil fuel companies have gazillions to lose from the transition to #EVs and a similar amount to spend on influencing public opinion against them.
That the guy interviewed is touted as a top internet debunker of EVs makes me immediately suspicious. Who's paying him?
If you want to know about EVs, ask the people that drive them. (I'm available to answer questions.)
Most people don’t seem to realise the volumes involved when it comes to fossil extraction vs lithium and other recyclable materials for ev and other low emissions solutions:
“In 2021, the world produced around 8 billion tonnes of coal, 4 billion tonnes of oil, and over 4 trillion cubic meters of natural gas”
Vs
“Lithium mines produced an estimated global total of 130,000 metric tons in 2022” #ev#renewables#climatechange
Not one single person who has commented on #Evs needing more stuff to make has ever, once, in their entire life, worried about where anything they buy comes from or the environmental impact of it
French recycling plant on fire housing 900 tonnes of lithium batteries
Reuters, February 19, 2024
"#Lithium batteries are vital in electrical devices from #phones to electric cars (#EVs), but contain combustible materials which, combined with the energy they store, can make them vulnerable to catching fire when exposed to heat - a potential danger given the #toxic materials their burning can emit."
It's because they lied. None of their plans were workable, ultium tech is a buzzword for nothing of substance, they've no plan to mass manufacture #EVs.
Mary lied, time and time again, because she knows GM is too big to fail and will get bailouts whenever it needs
“"Right now, we're competing with Mercedes and Porsche. When [their planned $50k midsize car] comes out, we're going after Tesla Model Y and Model 3," [Lucid CEO Peter Rawlinson] said, adding that he expects Lucid's total addressable market to increase 20 times.”
That speaks volumes about Lucid’s current addressable market, i.e. a very tiny niche.
Lucid make a huge error by releasing one expensive high-performance sedan after another, when the market clearly wants low-cost crossovers and SUVs (yeah, I hate them too, but that’s what people pay for). I don’t think a cheaper midsize car will do them wonders either. They need a cheap crossover/SUV.
“Rivian, Lucid's 2024 production targets disappoint as EV demand wanes”
@Rayspekt@MicroWave the upfront cost is just one of many. EVs are significantly cheaper to run, the electricity is cheaper than fossil fuel and the maintenance is also much cheaper as there are a lot fewer parts to maintain. When you add it up, there big savings whole of life. #evs
"Under the revised final regulation expected to be made public as soon as next month, the EPA will slow the pace of its proposed yearly #emissions requirements through 2030. The new pace is expected to result in #EVs accounting for less than 60% of total vehicles produced by 2030, the sources said."
Not crazy to believe that the recent wave of negative EV headlines, are the result of a PR campaign to get the White House to soften the upcoming CAFE standards. That is exactly how PR works.
ACC, backed by Stellantis, Mercedes, and Total, announces the closing of a €4.4 billion debt raising, increasing the funding for the construction of three gigafactories for lithium-ion battery cell production in France, Germany, and Italy, and for R&D. https://www.acc-emotion.com/node/2877 #batteries#ev#evs#energytransition
The brand focusing on ever larger more powerful v8 suv's and diesel monstrosities, that invested hundreds of millions into new fossil engine factories is actually /gasps/ not shifting to EV's like they said..
