i remember when i used to avidly read conversations about #CDrama and #KDrama eagerly looking for more to add to my watch list.
Now I just keep reading until I find the post which tells me I won't be able to cope with it and this is another series I should probably miss.
How do you stress addicts manage it? Like seriously. How do you cope with all of the cortisol and stress reactions from your entertainment?
Watching #MyLovelyLiar now and after the raging intensity and angst of #MeteorButterflySword it feels like things are slower, like eating warm scones instead of raging hot Thai green curry.
It is not bad, though I have to admit I am wondering what the hype is about.
Am I just jaded or something? 😆 Or do I just miss seeing people vomiting blood 🤣
Honestly, I am just tired of superhero movies. What, it has been 10 years of them? People want something different.
That's why I have retreated to #KDrama#CDrama spaces. I also watch Western dramas, but usually one thay doesn't run for seasons. I am also SUPER TIRED of tv shows getting cancelled before there is a proper ending!!
The genuine confusion you feel when almost the entire world loves #LoveBetweenFairyandDevil and you detest it to the depths of your very being. 😆 🙃
But that's par the course for me - I tend to dislike very popular dramas. Disliked Ashes of Love too. Two things are deal breakers for me: An infantile female lead & terrible acting.
When you have both together, well, that show doesn't stand a chance with me lol.
I binged from ep 1 to ep 11 of Mysterious Lotus Casebook today so consider this a recommendation from me. It's a wuxia crime/mystery drama. Very good pacing, light on the romance/relationship, more on the mystery/crimes and the main characters are hilarious.
One of them bullshits like he's BORN for it, another is a rich young master turned detective wannabe (ran away from an arranged marriage) who is way too easily lied to, and the third is (very unexpectedly) a muscle-head RIVAL!11 of the grandmaster of bullshit with a shared past (TEN YEARS AGO, THEY FOUGHT and nearly killed each other). Together, they solve crimes! (mostly!)
I'm helping someone I met elsewhere connect with us here. They want to find others who are also keen on K and C drama and made an account on Firefish for this @pseudo
(pseudo: follow these hashtags like you would an account #KDrama#CDrama
So a Discord group I am part of asked - what 12 dramas will I recommend people?
So this is a list of my favourite #CDramas and #KDramas. Have you seen any of them?
Lan Sizhui‘s actor plays a „playboy prince“ who always talks about his „loves“ who „followed him from faraway“ in this I‘m-stuck-in-a-video-game #cdrama, and a) it‘s weird, and b) I think his „loves“ are gonna turn out to be like, dogs or hamsters or something
Mysterious Lotus Casebook Watch Party Announcement
Based on a random conversation on here, a few of us will be watching this drama next week, together but asynchronous. How it works is, you pick a time convenient for you, watch the eps, and post your thoughts on Fedi~
Starts 29 September 2023 (ep 1 and ep 2)! We're mostly watching on the weekend so Fri/Sat/Sun, 2 eps a week. Feel free to join in!
Omg I am still hungover and sad after finishing #BloodOfYouth. I need a bromantic #CDrama to fill the void.
One thing the show made me realise was how much I missed classic #Wuxia dramas. So many CDramas revolve around romance - I miss heroic, adventuring around the jiang hu stories. There are precious few of them these days. So if you know of any do recommend me some!
Some shows that come to mind:
Ever Night
Joy of Life
Sword Snow Stride
Ancient Detective
Watching a #CDrama and very impressed by something I don't ever recall seeing in any of the 300 or so #KDramas I have seen - a male lead who chooses not to drink alcohol. The way #KDramas continue to glorify Korea's toxic drinking culture is a persistent bane for me
From MyDramaList's 2023 year summary. This is actually a good reflection of my taste in dramas. (Note the lack of romance dramas lol and lots of wuxias & thrillers hehe.) And apparently 90% of my dramas are rated 7 or 8, and about 8% or so are 9.
A #Cdrama that most Chinese folks around the world would know would be Journey to the West (1986).
My dad would tape every episode into VHS and us kids would replay the drama over and over again. It was a sad day when the VHS tapes ended up having mold growing in them, rendering them unwatchable.
Journey to the West is a “shen mo” - a Chinese fantasy genre that revolves around Chinese mythological characters.
Am now watching episode 7 of “In Blossom” with Liu Xueyi and Ju Jingyi 🌸 The premise with the swapped faces requires suspension of disbelief but it’s an effective plot device for the love story to unfold. The main couple are still wary of each other but are perhaps beginning to respect each other a little.
Still no chemistry but then again the love part hasn’t unfolded yet. I like this drama; it looks beautiful and the male lead is handsome and charming.
I need more recs for happy, found family, make-you-smile-and-warm-your-heart type of dramas. I don't mind murder and chaos as long as my people have a happy ending. Recent likes have been #BlossomsInAdversity, #StoryOfKunningPalace, I also liked #JoyOfLife & #MeetYourself.
Any #cdrama fans watched wuxia ‘Heroes’ (2022)? Thoughts?
Viki is streaming it. Noticed it has my crush Liu Yu Ning AND Joseph Zeng in it. Plus Baron Chen as villain.
Director is same as the beautiful Farewell My Princess.
Based on a novel by Woon Swee Oan, the Hong Kong-based Malaysian Chinese poet and writer who also inspired series & film, The Four. The novel is about the nature of heroes.
Every minute of this drama demands your complete attention. You can't fast forward Ripe Town because you'll miss an essential clue in a dialogue or a scene.
Am currently down with Covid, and wonder if I need something fluffier, however. But I've not been able to find any good #Kdrama rom coms, however. Any recs? I've seen quite a number so it could be hard to hit on one, but I've seen the latest - My Sweet Liar and Destined With You.
:dancing_panda: Creation of the Gods I is on Netflix! Just in time for Chinese New Year.
This is the xianxia I remember - where the gods care for something beyond romance, but is there to guide and protect humanity. Based on the 16th-century Chinese novel, "Investiture of the Gods".
Just beginning to watch season 1 of “Joy of Life” 🌸 It is still laying the foundations of the drama but there is already a sense of foreboding. Zhang Ruoyun has a very charismatic presence - slightly goofy but clever.
Ting Meishi has a brooding, underplayed aspect that complements Zhang Ruoyun’s more mercurial character.
It is indeed an odd experience to be part of the 1% of the human population who was not swept up by the #Untamed craze and kept failing to be swept up by it despite numerous times trying to.
I tried reading the novel, watched the donghua and even the #Cdrama and could not last more than a couple of episodes. People tell me to "soldier on" for a few more EPs but I couldn't I just couldn't.
Also tried reading the author's other books & just 😴
