Someone listed what Vonnegot got paid for a short story back in the day and so I can the math.

Most SF/F authors expect around $5,000 for a novel - paid in 3 or 4 parts. Romance novels earn less. The rate hasn't changed in decades.

That would mean earning $54,000 per book if publishing kept up with inflation. That's very nearly a living wage in some areas!

I admit, looking back, there were a number of red flags for depression. I should have reached out. I should have cared. But one of the things about depression is you don’t care. It’s not all tears and rage, sometimes it’s simply an emptiness. I couldn’t summon the will to care, so I hadn’t. And there’d been no one else to pick up the pieces.

No, the USA has not ever had marriage equality.

Even when marriage was opened up to the gay community the disabled community was not allowed to marry without losing their access to healthcare. Which is not a concern of Pride Month or a reflection on the LGBTQ+ community, but is still an issue.

I've been a little suspicious that almost everything I wrote in Chinese, ChatGPT said was 👍 .
However, today my faith was reaffirmed when ChatGPT corrected me when I wrote 我出家。

ChatGPT: "出家" usually means to become a monk or nun, which might not be the intended meaning.

Bwahaha. Would've made an interesting diary entry though.

But what's encouraging though is that I seemed to have internalised Chinese grammar ... mostly.

I'm going to need someone to explain to me why forms in the US don't consider Spain European.

When they check a box the options are often:

• White/European Descent
• Hispanic/Mexican/Spanish Descent
• Black/African
• Mixed

Spain is in Europe.

I just... I still don't understand.

My iron levels have been very low this past month and my husband went and researched non-dairy things that can inhibit iron uptake.

Finished #BlossomsInAdversity. Loved it. Would have loved 15 more minutes of the ending and watching people react to the big reveals (hi! the random beggar your family took in is now emperor!), but very good all around. Very cathartic.
