Having been on the Feb 15th 2003 March, I'd say yesterday's was perhaps a bit less, maybe 1.2 million?

Def not 300,000 or 500,000 whatever the bourgeois media or cops say.

It's #ArmisticeDay, so time for this poem from Siegfried Sassoon, a WW1 veteran and recipient of the Military Cross for exceptional bravery.

More than 100 people have been #arrested following clashes between #FarRight #CounterProtesters & #police at #ArmisticeDay events in #London today.

The vast majority of the arrests involved counter-protesters who are connected to football #hooliganism according to #ScotlandYard sources.

Skirmishes began on Saturday morning as far-Right protesters attempted to reach the #Cenotaph & continued into the afternoon

It's , and I have something to say.

Those soldiers didn't "give their lives for our freedom."

First, a huge number were conscripted, so those lives were taken, not given.

Second, that war was the result of rival colonial power building up gigantic war machines that they inevitably, eventually used against each other. There were no "good guys."

So when you think about , think about NEVER DOING THAT AGAIN.

Today in Labor History November 11, 1918: World War I ended, with 10 million dead, 21 million wounded, 7.5 million prisoners and missing in action, and another 22 million killed by the influenza pandemic that was exacerbated by the war. (The pandemic would ultimately kill 50-100 million). Originally celebrated as Armistice Day, November 11 is now known as Veterans Day. And once again, we’re on the verge of an imperialistic World War, but this time with weapons that can obliterate the planet, during another pandemic that has already killed 7 million by the most conservative estimates, over 1 million in the U.S., alone.

Don’t let there be another World War. Peace now in Gaza! Peace now in Ukraine! Down with all imperialism, colonialism, authoritarianism and state violence! Down with capitalism! Down with fascism and supremacy. Freedom, justice, peace, autonomy, and prosperity for all people, regardless of race, religion, gender, ability, age, or sexual orientation.

Happy VD, everyone!

So let me get this straight, the hundreds of thousands marching for a in haven't caused a single incident, haven't been anywhere near the cenotaph, and haven't disrespected in any way... But those who claimed that the protest was 'disrespectful' have come and thrown things (both verbally and physically), tried to barge past the cenotaph, fought with police, and some have got themselves arrested.

I think that really says it all.

"Libéré à Forville, 14.11.1918", it says on a chit issued by the Netherlands vice-consul at Charleroi. So ended the war for grandad #1. And just as well (for my chances of ever existing), since his cohort of POWs were in a bad state, and winter coming on. #ArmisticeDay #Remembrance #Poppies https://www.twobiscuits.at/musings/3403/

Grandad #2's regiment still had a march from Mons to Bonn ahead of them. Via demob camp in England, he got back to Ireland in April 1919. And so it was over. <> #ArmisticeDay #Remembrance #Poppies
