The tricky thing about being a company that I don't trust is that even when you try to clarify something you need to be aware that specificity can sound suss.
"Adobe does not train Firefly Gen AI models on customer content."
The way this is worded does not say your content is not used in training AI models, just that it's - SPECIFICALLY - not used to train "Firefly Gen AI models."
The federal #government is facing a dwindling window to #regulate the use of #ArtificialIntelligence in campaigns before the #2024election. The #FCC chair announced a plan last month to require #politicians to disclose #AI use in TV & radio #ads. But the prop is facing opposition from a #FEC top ofcl, which has been considering its own new rules on AI campaign use.
it’ll be fascinating to read a hindsight analysis of the #recall debacle in 5 years. i think it represents a significant business failure, maybe a critical one. i know there’s a lot of undercurrents and dynamics at play, it’ll be a great case study down the road
i love #LLMs and all, but #ML has always had a more difficult security profile and LLMs even more so. lots of subtle issues, and conflict with business opportunities
but that means that if you want to “invest heavily in #AI”, you HAVE TO also invest heavily in security. they go hand in hand.
if #recall is showing cracks in microsoft’s security culture, you can probably use that information to make predictions about their long term health
A social app for creatives, Cara grew from 40k to 650k users in a week because artists are fed up with Meta’s AI policies
"On Wednesday, Zhang opened her email to find a horrible shock: her bill for using Vercel, a web hosting company, would cost $96,280 for the last week."
Next week #WWDC predictions? #AI wise easy: Nothing that's going to match or top Google, Microsoft. #Apple will focus on iterations and practical ways intelligence is incorporated into the OS.
This will extract a cry of "Apple is behind on AI". Which they are. But not worried. They'e always been fast followers.
If they don't blindly introduce a "Recall" or something that says we can put glue on our pizza, then that's a win.
When it comes to my phone improve what I regularly use. </$0.02>
Andrej Karpathy released today a tutorial for reproducing GPT-2 from scratch. OpenAI released GPT -2 in 2019, and it is a 124M parameters model. This four-hour tutorial covers setting up the GTP-2 network and then training and optimizing its parameters.
It looks like a really cool tutorial; I hope to get the bandwidth to watch it in the coming weeks!
Call it the battle of the voice assistants. A Tech Radar editor tested Apple’s Siri against Google Gemini and Samsung’s Bixby. He made a list of 25 tasks he expected the AI to complete and graded them all on each. One of them easily outdid the others. Take a guess as to which one it was. https://flip.it/gqv-IQ #Tech#Siri#Gemini#Bixby#AI

"When a 23-year-old Sam Altman took the stage at Apple Inc.’s annual developer conference in 2008, he gushed about being able to use the company’s new App Store to promote his software, a friend-locating service called Loopt."
That's OpenAI's Sam Altman. He spoke at WWDC in 2008? That's incredible.
And now he's back. 2008 was the year of the App Store (and some brutal NDAs).
@kellogh Yep, #recall is one of those bad names, that makes you wonder what else was on the shortlist in the meeting.
"Right team, here are the options from the focus groups, it should be MS...

Torment Nexus...Ahem, sorry, no, but Torment Nexus is already taken for that, you know, 'other', project...
I don't understand writing something using AI tools. For me writing is fun because of the entire process. From coming up with an idea to writing, rewriting, and editing it. AI takes the fun out of creativity.
