Because the latest adaptation of 刘慈欣 / Liú Cíxīn 's 三体 / "Three Body" has now been released:

A reminder that the "dark forest" concept derived from the Fermi paradox does not work.

"Final" state of the N-Body-Problem demo of my FOSS Entity-Component System, https://fennecs.tech 🦊💫

#GameDev #3BodyProblem #ScreenshotSunday #GodotEngine #Csharp

glowy simulations of 2, 3, 4, and 5 star systems, stylized in a demo for a game Engine. The title reads "N-BODY PROBLEM", and there's a logo of a fox stylized as a lightning bolt in the center. An FPS counter reads values at around 500 fps for 100 parallel simulations. A larger block of text reads: This demo showcases the power of fennecs Entity-Entity relations in solving a common ECS challenge: managing N:N relationships efficiently. The renowned 3-Body-Problem demonstrates that even slight variations in initial conditions can lead to dramatically different and chaotic outcomes in systems with three or more interacting bodies. With fennecs, multiple Entities can interact with each other seamlessly, enabling complex behaviors such as flocking, leader-following, and grouping by spheres of influence. The framework achieves this while maintaining good cache coherence, memory locality, and optimal iteration order. Each colored cluster represents a small, self-contained clique where 2, 3, 4, or 5 stars (Entities) have relationships with all other Entities within the same group, forming a distinct Archetype. All simulations coexist harmoniously and interactions are driven by the same runner passed to a single Query, ensuring each Entity is processed exactly once for each other Entity it interacts with. The two other Queries then simply integrate the calculated forces into movement and position.

Alright, sound on!

I haven't been sucessfull in integrating JMusic into my Project so far (never used external libraries before)
Meanwhile @kandid brought my attention to soundification and I did succeed at multithreading! One thread does the gravity sim while the other soundifies it: Pitch increases the closer the planet gets to the star. The pace changes with the planets speed

I've been staying up too late reading the second book in the 3 Body series.

Although the concepts in the first book are epic, the second book feels more action-packed and exciting. It's not all talking characters, but stuff is happening. It makes me want to keep reading to find out more.

Chinese science fiction history shapes Netflix's '3 Body Problem' influence - FRIDAY ANALYSIS

I don’t often get to indulge my appreciation of Sinology, i.e., the study of Chinese history and culture, but Netflix’s new science fiction series “3 Body Problem” has piqued the curiosity of many people unaware of the country’s expansive Sci-Fi connections.

After watching the first episode, last night, I'm finally getting off my metaphorical butt and starting to read the Three Body trilogy. It's only been sitting on my hard drive for...just under 10(!) years.

I've got a bit of a media backlog.

Finished Death's End(and the trilogy).

Book 3 was a bit of a let down after Dark Forest. I had to take a little break after the fairy tales & the 4-dimensional bubble discovery. I enjoyed most of the individual sections; but, as a whole...eh.

After the first two books, it seemed, to me, like a bunch of deus ex machinas being flung around(which was kinda of funny in a meta way), in an effort wrap things up.

Definitely a great trilogy.

“Was that E.T. or was it not E.T.? Nobody knows,” Seth Shostak, senior astronomer at the SETI Institute, tells Astronomy. “Nobody has ever found another explanation for what that might have been. It’s like you hear chains rattling in your attic and you think ‘My god, ghosts are real.’ But then you never hear them again, so what do you think?”

3 body problem.

One of the lesser main characters used a bike in the first episode. No bicycle was used ever again.

In the second(?) episode he was told that he's still a child. So, was his use of a bike ment to be one of the indicators showing him to still be childlike? Not sure, but that would be the typical way bikes are used in culture. But since I'm not sure this isn't the worst, I guess.

Also, I liked the series better than the books.

I finished #3BodyProblem last night. It's dogshit. 0/10 I hate it. If you're a fan of the books watch #ThreeBody on Prime instead. It's a very good representation of the books. If you just like random Game of Thrones actors doing their best with a god awful script that is tangentially related to the books, I guess sure check out 3BP, I'm not your dad.

I went to the book swap shelf at my train station and took the first book I saw cos I needed something to read on a long flight.

And it's a perfect book. I love it. It's called City of Thieves, and it's by a man named David Benioff.

The name sounded familiar even tho I was sure I hadn't read him before. Turns out he's the showrunner for 3 Body Problem and Game of Thrones.

Love your work, Mr Benioff. Love your work.

What's your favorite reviews of "Three body problem"? Especially ones that focus on discussing the physics - both in terms of depiction of physics and physicists and in terms of how correct the books are?

Preferably of the Netflix series, but I'll also accept those for the books if especially good on discussing the physics.

Please link to them! Boosts welcome :)

@muellerwhh @jni @vicgrinberg Among the problems with "Three Body" and "Dark Forest"; Liu Cixin did not inform himself that well about how people do radar astronomy and radio astronomy or about how people have imagined SETI over the past 60 years now.

In the scenario he set up; any of a long list of current radio telescopes (military as well as civilian) could be set to track the galactic plane at any time and run hot, ready to transmit within seconds - and some of them would be.
