#Ontario Premier #DougFord has suggested #immigrants r 2 blame 4 the shooting of empty #Jewish school in Toronto over wknd, despite police saying they have little info on the suspects
#Toronto police have said 2 suspects fired shots shortly before 5am last Sat @ #BaisChayaMushka Elementary School & that no 1 was injured, though there was damage 2 the building
It makes sense that Ford would call an election because there is no opposition, voter turnout out would probably be the same as last time, the PCs have been using our $$$ non-stop the past few months to highlight their successes and because if PP wins, well there is historical precedent that shows the province would dump his provincial affiliation to the federal #ontario#ottawa#onpoli#cdnpolihttps://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/toronto/alcohol-sales-convenience-stores-ontario-1.7213546
@grivettcarnac@gemelliz He should do it before 2025, when the 10-year deal with the big breweries would have expired and he could have saved $600M. A somewhat major talking point in debates (if the Cons bother to show up for any, that is).
It makes sense, I don't really like any of options. Our options are:
Doug Ford
Bonnie Crombie, who isn't going to be better.
Marit Stiles, who is giving narcissistic vibes, see the picture below which is the first picture on the Ontario NDP's website.
Mike Schreiner, supports Lecce's stupid war on students.
I don't want to vote in the election, but probably will. I don't think most voters like me will vote though.
A local group wants to make it easier for people needing #paratransit to easily get on board services across #Ontario. Paratransit is for people who cannot easily access #PublicTransit due to their age or #disability.
The goal is to create a #ProvinceWide eligibility process so that qualified people can use specialized public transit services anywhere in Ontario. This can be very important for those who need to travel for treatment or appointments to different cities.
@msquebanh
So many people in my town would benefit from this. All the services here, especially medical, are so scattered between towns and regions and there is literally no transit network of any kind. I know we have some mobility services but I'm not sure about the interconnectivity. Gonna take a dig and probably harass some councilors.
@CedarTea I wish we had a province wide public paratransit program here. It's very hard to coordinate between multiple HandyDart systems. You have to register for each regional one & obtain different ID pass & different tickets for each one. It's a complete nightmare & the majority of disabled in BC who depend on public paratransit aren't able to coordinate bus transfers for trips.
When the Canadian government touted $10 a day daycare they neglected to mention they let #Ontario opt out of living wages and operating costs for daycares, now daycares that enrolled in the program are shutting down. It was another PR exercise: #Canada
@batichi hopefully nothing happens.
i'm not that far away from the effected areas but i probably wouldn't have known cause nothing showed up on my weather widget.
@msquebanh 16.6% of Canadian-born students living in unsuitable housing makes it clear that there is not enough housing for students. Adding international students into the mix cannot make that suddenly not a bigger issue.
@CStamp I've met both domestic & international students here, who are living out of cars or couch surf for months because there's still a massive housing crisis.
@johnefrancis A friend of mine owns a cottage on a small lake in Quebec. All of the residents have agreed to no motorized vessels on the lake. It’s heaven.
@MichaelPorter a municipality can ask for a VOR...an official Transport Canada restriction on vessels. Not sure if that's what they are doing in Quebec. They also sometimes set the ramp fees as $1500 but free for cottage members...I don't like that...lakes are for everyone.
I don’t know if we’re prepared for how many people do not and will not give a fuck about serious transmissible infectious disease outbreaks and future pandemics. Considering #covid is already over according to every government and no one is seriously grappling with what happened over the past four years, I’m not hopeful on a large scale #cdnpoli#onpoli#ontario
Did you know that women can legally go topless in #Ontario? But I think this story is still true -- most won't because they're afraid of getting harassed.
The JN.1.* +FLiRT variants now make up 27% of sequences and XDK.* which is recombinant of JN.1.1.1 and XBB.1.16.11 is remaining at 5% for now. Graph tools by @mike_honey_ 🧵 1/
@grivettcarnac I gave up at the third paragraph of the author and judge lamenting the impact being a convicted rapist who destroyed a co worker’s career will have on this guy because it was clear there were never going to get to real consequences. Consequences thst might keep him or another like him from doing this again
#Ontario and #CyberSecurity folks - My friend just got an email thanking her for getting vaccinated, with a link to click to access her vaccine certificate. She hasn't been vaccinated lately, so my alarm bells are ringing.
The link to click goes to the domain awstrack.me, which does not look like a legit domain for this kind of thing. On the other hand, the email is addressed to her personally (i.e. there is a salutation that uses her real name), with a minor capitalization typo that was in the definitely-legit emails she recevied previously. Those previous emails also have a link to click that goes to the TLD awstrack.me.
"awstrack” makes me think Amazon Web Services are involved, but that particular TLD is registered in Luxembourg, if I read the whois entry correctly. Why would our provincial health service be routing sensitive information through a European domain?
I suspected that maybe someone got vaccinated recently, and the OHIP number was entered wrong. But my friend checked the portal, and her last vax recorded was in last year, as expected.
Our right-wing, pro-Trump Premier has clearly been delivered the polling on student encampments (9/10 Canadians support the students).
He is not going to call upon Provincial police. #Onpoli#Ontario:
